Cost Accountant Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cost accountant in Florida?
Most cost accountant roles in Florida require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and employers increasingly expect CPA licensure or active pursuit of it through the Florida Board of Accountancy. Florida uses the same Uniform CPA Exam as other states, administered through NASBA. Beyond credentials, Florida employers in manufacturing and healthcare place strong weight on ERP experience and direct cost accounting work, so internships or staff accounting roles in those industries are the most practical entry path.
How much do cost accountants make in Florida?
Cost accountants in Florida earn a median of about $79,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,280 for the lowest 10% to over $131,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cost accountants in Florida?
Employers hiring cost accountants in Florida right now include Augmentis, EMCOR, and Frida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's large manufacturing, defense contracting, and multi-site healthcare sectors create steady cost accounting demand across both corporate headquarters and regional operating facilities.
Which Florida cities have the most cost accountant jobs?
Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach Gardens have the most cost accountant openings in Florida. Tampa and Jacksonville carry significant volume because of their manufacturing, logistics, and financial services bases, while Miami's concentration of multinational headquarters and healthcare networks drives demand in South Florida. Openings in smaller metros typically trace back to a single large employer, a regional distribution hub, or a manufacturing plant operating nearby.
Are there remote cost accountant jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than many accounting specialties, since cost accounting work is largely analytical and systems-based rather than on-site. About 33% of cost accountant openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the strongest remote availability in roles focused on reporting, variance analysis, and financial close rather than those that require direct plant-floor or inventory-count involvement.
How can I get hired as a cost accountant in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff accountant or accounts payable role inside a Florida manufacturing, distribution, or healthcare company, then rotating into cost functions once you have ERP and close experience. Large Florida employers such as Publix, Darden Restaurants, and regional hospital systems run structured new-graduate accounting programs that place candidates directly into cost or general ledger teams. Sitting for the CPA exam through the Florida Board of Accountancy while in an entry role signals commitment and accelerates the move into dedicated cost accounting work.
Where can I find and apply to cost accountant jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to cost accountant jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
