Technical Sales Engineer Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales engineer in Idaho?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or agricultural engineering followed by a role in technical support or inside sales at an Idaho manufacturer or technology firm. Idaho does not require a state-issued sales license for this role, but Professional Engineer registration through the Idaho Board of Licensure of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors strengthens credibility for roles involving signed engineering deliverables. Most Idaho employers prioritize hands-on product knowledge alongside commercial aptitude.
How much do technical sales engineers make in Idaho?
Technical sales engineers in Idaho earn a median of about $128,030 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $85,620 for the lowest 10% to over $260,510 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales engineers in Idaho?
Employers hiring technical sales engineers in Idaho right now include WSP and Vishay Precision, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Idaho's semiconductor, defense, and agri-tech sectors mean that hiring tends to cluster around firms supplying equipment, components, or process solutions to large industrial operations in the Treasure Valley and eastern Idaho.
Which Idaho cities have the most technical sales engineer jobs?
Boise and Meridian account for the most technical sales engineer openings in Idaho. Boise anchors the market as home to Micron Technology's manufacturing campus and a growing cluster of industrial suppliers, while Idaho Falls draws openings tied to Idaho National Laboratory and its energy technology contractor ecosystem, and Twin Falls reflects demand from large food processing operations including Chobani and Lamb Weston.
Are there remote technical sales engineer jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based roles, since technical sales engineers frequently travel to client sites for product demonstrations and installation support. About 33% of technical sales engineer openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, with remote work most feasible for pre-sales consultation, proposal development, and account management responsibilities that do not require on-site equipment interaction.
How can I get hired as a technical sales engineer in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior application engineer or field support role at an Idaho industrial or technology manufacturer, where product training is built into onboarding. Micron Technology and Idaho National Laboratory both run new-graduate and co-op programs that move engineers into customer-facing tracks. Lateral moves from roles such as quality engineer, process technician, or manufacturing engineer are common because employers value product fluency over sales experience. Completing a Fundamentals of Engineering exam or earning a vendor product certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Idaho employers. Search the listings, identify the roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
