Test Engineer Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a test engineer in New Jersey?
Most test engineer roles in New Jersey require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. New Jersey does not require a state-issued license for software or general test engineers, but candidates targeting medical device or defense roles benefit from familiarity with FDA validation requirements or MIL-STD testing standards. Building a portfolio of documented test plans and earning a certification in software testing or quality assurance strengthens applications considerably in the New Jersey market.
Which companies hire test engineers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring test engineers in New Jersey right now include Marotta Controls, Nokia, and Lockheed Martin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's pharmaceutical corridor along Route 1 and its defense contractors in the southern part of the state are among the most consistent sources of test engineer openings in the region.
Which New Jersey cities have the most test engineer jobs?
Moorestown, Parsippany-Troy Hills, and Holmdel have the most test engineer openings in New Jersey. The Newark metro draws volume from its proximity to major tech and telecom operations, Princeton and its surrounding corridor attract pharmaceutical and life sciences employers, and Cherry Hill benefits from defense and government contracting firms concentrated in the southern part of the state.
Are there remote test engineer jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than many technical roles. About 25% of test engineer openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves software, scripting, and documentation rather than physical lab work. Roles focused on test automation, QA analysis, and software quality tend to be the most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a test engineer in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for QA analyst or junior test associate roles at New Jersey's large pharmaceutical and telecom employers, which regularly bring on candidates with relevant coursework rather than direct experience. Companies like Johnson & Johnson and Cognizant's New Jersey operations run rotational and associate programs that place early-career candidates in structured testing environments. Building even a small portfolio of automated test scripts on GitHub and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification gives entry-level candidates a concrete edge over other applicants.
Where can I find and apply to test engineer jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to test engineer jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
