Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Automation Project Manager
Align your credentials to engineer classification
TN visa sponsorship for Automation Project Managers routes through the engineer category, so your degree must be in engineering or a directly related field. A management or business degree alone won't satisfy the specialty occupation requirement at the border.
Target manufacturers with active automation programs
Focus your search on U.S. manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and industrial integrators running active automation deployments. These employers file TN petitions routinely and understand the documentation required, which shortens the offer-to-start timeline significantly.
Search TN-sponsored roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Automation Project Manager openings by employers with TN visa sponsorship history. This cuts through postings where sponsorship is technically possible but the employer has never actually filed, saving you weeks of back-and-forth.
Request a support letter detailing your automation scope
The employer's TN support letter must specify your role's technical scope, including PLC systems, SCADA integration, or robotics implementation. Generic project management language without engineering specifics is a common reason officers push back at the port of entry.
Prepare for CBP scrutiny on management versus engineering duties
Canadian citizens crossing at the border should expect officers to examine whether your day-to-day duties are primarily technical or administrative. Bring documentation showing hands-on engineering responsibilities, not just team oversight, to support your TN classification.
Understand Mexican TN filing differs from Canadian processing
Mexican professionals must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry, and the TN allocation for Mexico is capped annually. Start the consular scheduling process early, as appointment availability varies significantly by time of year.

Find Automation Project Manager JobsAutomation Project Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Automation Project Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided your role is classified under the engineer category and your degree is in engineering or a related technical field. The position must involve substantive engineering work, such as overseeing PLC programming, system integration, or automation architecture, not purely administrative project coordination. Officers at the port of entry or consulate will assess whether the duties are primarily technical in nature.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN visa sponsorship is faster and more predictable for Automation Project Managers than H-1B. There's no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and processing happens at the port of entry on the same day for Canadian citizens. H-1B requires a cap-subject petition filed months in advance with uncertain selection odds. The tradeoff is that TN status requires maintaining an active employer relationship and doesn't lead directly to permanent residence.
What documentation does an employer need to sponsor a TN visa for this role?
The employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, the engineering category claimed, your anticipated start date, and a description of your technical duties. Your degree transcripts or diploma confirming an engineering credential are required. If you're Canadian, you present these documents at the port of entry. Mexican nationals submit them as part of the consular visa application.
Where can I find Automation Project Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for this search. You can filter roles by TN visa sponsorship and job title, so you're only seeing employers who have indicated willingness to file. Generic job boards don't filter by visa type, which means you spend significant time confirming sponsorship availability on each application before you can meaningfully proceed.
Can a Mexican citizen on TN status change Automation Project Manager employers mid-year?
Yes, but the process differs from Canada. Mexican TN holders need a new consular appointment to obtain a visa stamp reflecting the new employer before starting work, since TN status for Mexican nationals is tied to the consular-issued visa. Canadian TN holders can generally change employers by presenting a new support letter and credentials at a port of entry for a fresh admission.
