Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner
Verify your NP credentials meet TN requirements
TN classification requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing plus an active U.S. state RN license. Emergency medicine NPs must confirm their APRN certification is recognized by the hiring state before proceeding with the application. For Canadian citizens, you'll present your credentials and the employer's support letter at a U.S. port of entry. For Mexican citizens, the employer's support letter is submitted with your application at a U.S. consulate.
Target health systems with established TN filing experience
Large academic medical centers and regional trauma centers routinely sponsor work visas for advanced practice nurses. Look for employers with recent visa filings across healthcare roles—this demonstrates experience with visa sponsorship processes. Hospitals experienced with visa sponsorship for various clinical positions are more likely to support TN applications for nurse practitioners.
Clarify your role in the employer support letter process
Emergency medicine groups that staff hospitals through contractor arrangements may defer sponsorship responsibility to the host facility. Get written confirmation of which entity will provide your support letter before accepting an offer, since a mismatch delays your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively offering TN sponsorship
Filter by TN visa and Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner roles on Migrate Mate to surface employers who have already committed to sponsorship, cutting out the time spent cold-contacting facilities that decline to sponsor advanced practice roles.
Prepare a role-specific TN support letter from your employer
CBP officers at ports of entry assess TN eligibility on the spot for Canadians. Your employer's support letter must specifically state your NP duties, your graduate nursing degree, and your active RN license, not just your job title and salary.

Find Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner JobsEmergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. NPs qualify under the USMCA treaty's Nurse occupational category, provided you hold a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing and an active RN license in the state where you'll practice. Emergency medicine is a specialty setting, not a separate TN category, so your degree and license are what determine eligibility, not your clinical focus area.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioners?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-year wait for a visa number. Canadian NPs can receive TN status at a port of entry the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and USCIS petition approval. For most Canadian and Mexican NPs, TN is a faster and more reliable path to U.S. employment.
Can I work in an emergency department while my TN is being processed?
Canadian citizens approved at a port of entry can begin work immediately upon receiving TN status. Mexican citizens require a TN visa stamp from a U.S. consulate before starting work, and that consular appointment must be scheduled and completed first. Neither pathway allows you to work based solely on a pending application or offer letter.
Where can I find Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking roles with TN visa sponsorship. You can filter by visa type and job title to find Emergency Medicine NP positions at employers with recent visa filings, which indicates experience navigating work visa sponsorship. This helps you focus on facilities more likely to support your TN application rather than spending time on organizations unfamiliar with the visa sponsorship process.
What happens to my TN status if the hospital switches staffing agencies or my employer changes?
TN status is tied to a specific employer relationship. If your employer of record changes, whether through a staffing agency transition or a direct acquisition, you need a new TN approval before continuing work for the new entity. Canadian NPs can handle this at a port of entry, while Mexican NPs must return to a U.S. consulate for a new visa stamp.
