Frame your credentials around specialty occupation
TN approval depends on the officer accepting that your role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Get your engineering or management degree evaluated by a NACES-accredited credential evaluator before applying, especially if your degree is from a Mexican institution.
Target employers with active facilities capital programs
Companies running multi-site construction, lab build-outs, or deferred maintenance portfolios file TN petitions regularly. Prioritize employers whose job postings reference capital project budgets, LEED certification, or campus master planning, since those roles map cleanly to TN-eligible occupation categories.
Clarify the occupation category before you accept an offer
Facilities Project Manager roles can qualify under Engineer or Management Consultant depending on scope. Ask the hiring team to confirm which TN category their counsel intends to use, because the supporting documentation and degree requirements differ between the two.
Search for sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Facilities Project Manager roles by employers with TN visa sponsorship history. It surfaces positions where the employer has already navigated the TN filing process, cutting down the time you spend screening companies that won't sponsor.
Prepare a project scope letter from your employer
CBP officers adjudicate TN petitions at the port of entry in minutes. A detailed employer support letter outlining your specific project responsibilities, reporting structure, and degree requirements for the role significantly reduces the risk of a secondary review or denial.
Understand Mexican TN timing relative to the annual cap
Mexican nationals are subject to a 5,500 annual TN cap. If you're applying late in the fiscal year and the category is nearing exhaustion, consular processing timelines can extend. Check the current cap usage through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) before your employer schedules your consulate appointment.

Find Facilities Project Manager JobsFacilities Project Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Facilities Project Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
It depends on how the role is structured. Facilities Project Managers can qualify under the Engineer category if the position requires a degree in engineering and involves applying engineering principles to facilities projects. Some roles also qualify under Management Consultant. The job description and employer support letter must make the degree-to-duty connection explicit for the CBP officer adjudicating your case.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Facilities Project Manager positions?
The TN visa has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, so you can apply as soon as you have a job offer. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery each spring with no guarantee of selection. For Mexican nationals, the TN has a 5,500-per-year cap but still avoids the lottery. TN also processes at the port of entry for Canadians, often same-day.
How can I find Facilities Project Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Facilities Project Manager roles filtered by employers with recent visa filings. Many companies will hire for this role but haven't formalized a sponsorship process, so targeting employers experienced with visa sponsorship saves significant time during negotiations and avoids surprises after you've accepted an offer.
What documents do I need to bring to the border for TN admission as a Facilities Project Manager?
Canadian citizens applying at a port of entry need a valid Canadian passport, a detailed employer support letter on company letterhead, proof of your qualifying degree, and a copy of the job offer. Some officers also request a project description or org chart. Mexican nationals must apply at a U.S. consulate and cannot self-apply at the border.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa if I'm already working in a Facilities Project Manager role?
Yes, but you need a new TN approval tied to the new employer before you start work. There's no transfer process; the new employer must initiate a fresh TN petition or you must re-apply at the border with updated documentation. Canadian citizens can do this at a port of entry on short notice, while Mexican nationals must return to consular processing.
