Align your degree to the role
TN visa eligibility requires a direct connection between your credential and the Head of Marketing position. A degree in marketing, business administration, or communications supports the application. A general arts degree without a marketing concentration often triggers additional scrutiny.
Target employers with prior TN history
Search for employers with recent visa filings to identify companies experienced with sponsoring work visas for marketing roles. These employers already understand visa sponsorship processes and are less likely to withdraw an offer over visa-related paperwork concerns.
Request a detailed offer letter early
CBP adjudicators assess the offer letter to confirm the role is a specialty occupation tied to your degree. Ask the employer to describe the strategic marketing responsibilities explicitly, not just list the job title. Vague letters are a leading cause of TN refusals at the border.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filtering for Head of Marketing roles where employers have recent visa filings saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces these positions specifically, so you're not cold-applying to companies that lack experience with work visa sponsorship processes.
Prepare for Mexican consular processing timelines
Mexican citizens cannot use the port-of-entry option Canadians have. You'll schedule an interview at a U.S. consulate, and appointment availability varies by location. Factor in four to eight weeks of lead time when negotiating your start date with the employer.
Collect renewals before your current status expires
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no cap on renewals. File your extension documents or border crossing at least 60 days before expiration. A lapse in status creates complications for ongoing marketing contracts and vendor agreements tied to your employment.
Head Of Marketing TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Marketing role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the marketing function, such as marketing, business administration, or communications. The offer letter must describe strategic responsibilities like brand direction, campaign oversight, or demand generation leadership. Roles that amount to general management without a marketing-specific degree requirement are harder to support under TN.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no petition filed with USCIS, which means a qualified Head of Marketing candidate can start within weeks of receiving a compliant offer letter. H-1B visa requires a lottery selection in April and a wait until October at the earliest. For time-sensitive senior marketing hires, TN is substantially faster to execute when the candidate qualifies.
Where can I find Head of Marketing jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking roles with TN visa sponsorship. Rather than applying broadly and asking each employer about their visa sponsorship experience, Migrate Mate surfaces positions from companies with recent visa filings, demonstrating they're experienced with sponsoring work visas. This reduces the risk of an offer falling through due to an employer unfamiliar with the sponsorship process.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN status for a Head of Marketing role at the border like a Canadian?
No. Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate abroad rather than at a land port of entry. You'll need to schedule a visa interview, present your offer letter, degree credentials, and supporting documentation. Appointment availability varies by consulate city, so build enough lead time into your start date negotiation to account for scheduling delays.
What happens to my TN status if my employer is acquired or restructures?
A corporate acquisition or restructuring that materially changes your role, title, or employer entity can affect TN status validity. If the legal entity hiring you changes, you generally need a new TN application reflecting the successor employer. Notify your employer's HR team immediately during any M&A process and confirm whether a new border crossing or consular appointment is required before your current TN documentation expires.
