Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Program Specialist
Match your degree to the role description
TN classification hinges on a direct link between your credential and the Program Specialist duties you'll perform. A degree in public administration, social work, or a related field strengthens your case; a mismatched degree creates RFE risk.
Request a support letter before signing
Your employer's TN support letter must detail your specific program duties, your degree field, and the professional category claimed. Ask for a draft before you accept the offer so you can flag gaps while the employer still has time to revise.
Target federal contractors and nonprofits first
Program Specialist roles at federal contractors and large nonprofits typically have in-house HR teams experienced with visa sponsorship. Organizations running government-funded programs have established relationships with immigration counsel and are less likely to treat your status as a barrier. Their familiarity with work visa processes generally translates to smoother employer sponsorship workflows.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsorship employers
Filter Program Specialist openings by TN visa sponsorship history using Migrate Mate. This surfaces employers who have sponsored similar roles before, saving you from applying to postings where the hiring team has never heard of the USMCA.
Prepare for port-of-entry processing as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can finalize TN status at a land border or airport without scheduling a consular appointment. Bring your offer letter, support letter, degree transcripts, and resume in a single organized packet, CBP officers make the determination on the spot.
Clarify USMCA category with your employer before applying
Program Specialist spans multiple USMCA professional categories depending on your duties. Confirm which category your employer will claim in your TN support letter before your port-of-entry presentation (for Canadians) or consulate appointment (for Mexicans); changing categories after submission requires a new support letter and delays your start date.

Find Program Specialist JobsProgram Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Program Specialist role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on your specific duties and degree. Program Specialist positions tied to social services, education, or scientific analysis can qualify under categories like Social Worker or Scientific Technician, but the job description must clearly align with an eligible USMCA professional category. A generic program coordination role without a field-specific degree is harder to support.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Program Specialists compare to H-1B?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians, so you can start as soon as you have an offer and a qualifying degree. H-1B requires winning a random lottery and waiting until October 1 to begin work. For Program Specialists with a relevant degree and a willing employer, TN is faster and far more predictable than H-1B.
Where can I find Program Specialist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers and filters openings by sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have already hired USMCA professionals. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship status, which means you end up screening employers manually after applying.
What documents does a Mexican citizen need for a Program Specialist TN visa?
Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry. You'll need a valid passport, DS-160 confirmation, a detailed employer support letter specifying your Program Specialist duties and the USMCA category claimed, proof of your qualifying degree, and the MRV fee receipt. Processing typically takes several weeks after your interview.
Can my employer renew my TN status indefinitely for a Program Specialist position?
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, provided you maintain a qualifying job offer and continue to meet the professional category requirements. Your employer files for renewal either at a port of entry (Canadians) or through USCIS, and your duties and credentials must still align with the original category claimed.
