Which accounting companies sponsor Green Card visas in Alabama?
Large financial institutions and professional services firms account for most Green Card sponsorships in Alabama's accounting sector. Regions Financial Corporation and Protective Life in Birmingham, along with national accounting firms operating local offices, have filed PERM labor certification applications for accounting roles. Defense contractors in Huntsville such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin also sponsor accounting professionals supporting federal contracts, given the region's concentration of government and aerospace work.
Which cities in Alabama have the most accounting Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Birmingham generates the largest share of accounting Green Card sponsorship activity in Alabama, driven by its concentration of banking, insurance, and healthcare finance employers. Huntsville is a growing secondary market, particularly for government contractor accounting and financial compliance roles tied to the aerospace and defense industry. Mobile sees sponsorship primarily through port-related logistics firms, manufacturing companies, and regional CPA practices that handle multistate clients.
How do I find accounting Green Card sponsorship jobs in Alabama?
Migrate Mate lets you filter accounting jobs in Alabama specifically by Green Card sponsorship, showing verified employer filing history so you can focus on companies actively petitioning for permanent residence. This saves significant time compared to researching PERM applications manually through DOL disclosure data. Migrate Mate's listings are updated regularly, making it practical to track new openings in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Mobile as they appear.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Alabama?
Roles requiring specialized credentials or advanced expertise are most commonly sponsored. These include certified public accountants, audit managers, tax managers specializing in federal or international tax, and financial controllers. Cost accounting positions supporting Alabama's manufacturing and defense sectors also appear in PERM filings. Generally, roles requiring a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field combined with professional licensure or several years of specialized experience tend to meet the PERM labor certification requirements.
Are there any Alabama-specific considerations for accounting Green Card sponsorship?
Alabama employers sponsoring accountants through PERM must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements, which vary by metro area. Birmingham wages are generally higher than rural Alabama markets, affecting what employers must document and offer. The state's growing aerospace and defense sector in Huntsville means some accounting sponsorships involve obtaining security clearance eligibility, which can influence candidate selection. Alabama does not impose additional state-level immigration requirements beyond federal PERM and USCIS petition processes.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card accounting jobs in Alabama?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
