Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Political Science in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor of Judicial Politics to start in August 2026. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.
The individual in this position will teach three courses a semester in American National Government and law-related political science courses. They will also assist the department’s pre-law advisor in informing students about the law school admissions process and legal careers and serve as faculty advisors for pre-law student organizations. The individual in this position is also expected to participate in research activity, serve the department by participating in departmental committees, and supervise undergraduate honors students. Our department comprises a diverse group of outstanding faculty members recognized for their teaching, mentoring, and research. We are deeply committed to the academic success of our students and professors.
We seek a candidate who entails conducting research leading to publication, engaging in creative and/or scholarly activities, designing graduate and undergraduate courses, developing and implementing new methods of teaching to reflect changes in the field, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, mentoring and evaluating students, creating interest and understanding among students, serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, providing service on campus and in related professional organizations, and participating in faculty governance in the department and on campus.

Minimum Qualifications:
With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate
- Ph.D. in Political Science or related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment or a J.D. from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment
- Demonstrated teaching background and research interests that concentrate on aspects of Constitutional Law and Judicial Politics
- Demonstrated an ability to teach an introductory level American National Government course and either an upper-level undergraduate Introduction to Legal Studies class, or an upper-level undergraduate Judicial Process course
- Demonstrated a willingness to assist the department’s pre-law advisor in informing students about the law school admissions process and legal careers
- Demonstrated a willingness to serve as a faculty advisor for pre-law related student organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
- An ability to teach other constitutional law-related courses that fall within the discipline of political science
- A record of at least two semesters documenting exceptional teaching as the instructor of record, including, but not limited to, superior course evaluations as well as evidence of being able to utilize a range of teaching methods designed to reach a wide variety of students. experience advising or mentoring students in law school admissions and/or legal careers
- If the applicant holds a Ph.D., an applicant who also has a J.D. would be preferred over applicants. If the applicant holds a J.D., applicants with a master’s degree in political science would also be preferred
- A record that displays evidence of commitment to, and a record of, academic and student service
