As a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, we’re part of a proud legacy of innovation and excellence. SIE is a dynamic technology company, delivering cutting-edge hardware and network services to more than 100 million people and an entertainment leader, home to some of the most beloved and recognizable intellectual properties (IP) in the world. Our role at SIE is to create and nurture the experiences under the PlayStation brand, a name synonymous with entertainment excellence and creativity.
How would you like to influence the most successful gaming platform of all time by validating the very technology our developers use to build extraordinary games?
Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to provide hands-on engineering excellence across our SDK ecosystem. This role focuses on building tools and infrastructure for analyzing the quality of the PlayStation SDK and related technology. While this is the primary domain, there are opportunities to expand into 3D graphics, spatial audio, artificial intelligence, and the fully integrated PlayStation game development environment.
We are looking for someone who wants to directly impact PlayStation technology by developing tools and automated systems that deeply analyze SDK components and platform capabilities. You will help strengthen and evolve our testing infrastructure, raise the technical bar for quality engineering, and drive confidence in every release. If you’re passionate about solving complex system-level challenges and influencing technology used by people around the world, we want to hear from you, come help us power the future of PlayStation!
Responsibilities:
Technical Strategy & Architecture
- Own and drive the technical strategy for automation frameworks, test architecture, and CI systems supporting PlayStation® SDK components.
- Define scalable, maintainable automation and infrastructure patterns that support long-term platform growth.
- Contribute to architectural discussions for test systems spanning C++, embedded firmware (C), and Python-based infrastructure.
- Identify technical risks early and drive mitigation strategies to protect release confidence.
Hands-On Engineering
- Crafting and improving automated test cases, sample applications, testing tools and frameworks for SDK libraries and low level software (C++).
- Build and improve test infrastructure using Python and Groovy to simplify building, testing, and demonstrating PlayStation® sample applications.
- Monitor test infrastructure, analyze automation failures, improve reliability, and optimize runtime performance.
- Partner closely with software production and offshore teams to compose robust test plans, validation strategies, and documentation.
Skills and Characteristics
- Strong technical leadership with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including presenting technical direction to both engineers and executives.
- Proven experience leading architectural decisions and complex debugging efforts.
- Self-directed, committed to producing strong results, and passionate about high-quality automation.
Qualifications
- Strong programming proficiency in Python & C++.
- Experience building, running, and debugging software in both Windows & Linux environments.
- Deep understanding of automation trade-offs and architectural design decisions.
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to Android platform, including SDK, tooling and architecture.
- Prior experience with PlayStation SDK development is helpful.
- Familiarity with Unity, Unreal Engine or other game engine technology.
- Containerization technology such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Which technology companies in California sponsor E-3 visas?
Many of California's largest technology employers have established E-3 visa sponsorship processes, including Apple, Google, Meta, Salesforce, Nvidia, Adobe, and Intuit. Startups in the Bay Area and Los Angeles also sponsor E-3 visas, though their processes are typically less standardized than those of larger companies. Checking a company's prior hiring history is a reliable indicator of willingness to sponsor.
Which California cities have the most technology E-3 sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose and Silicon Valley, accounts for the highest concentration of technology E-3 sponsorship roles in California. Los Angeles has a growing technology sector, particularly in fintech, media technology, and e-commerce. San Diego has a strong presence in biotech software and defense technology. Remote roles based in California also appear regularly, though visa sponsorship terms can vary.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship in California?
Roles that consistently qualify include software engineer, data scientist, machine learning engineer, product manager, cybersecurity analyst, cloud architect, and UX designer. The E-3 requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning it must theoretically and practically require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Generalist roles or positions where any degree field is acceptable are less likely to qualify.
How do I find technology E-3 sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters technology roles in California by E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing positions from employers who have indicated a willingness to sponsor. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship at the offer stage. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer sponsorship history, which is useful context before applying to California technology companies.
Are there any California-specific considerations for E-3 sponsorship in technology?
California's strong worker-protection laws can affect employment terms but don't change federal E-3 requirements. One practical consideration is that California technology roles are highly competitive, and many employers have internal immigration teams or preferred law firms experienced with E-3 filings, which generally makes the sponsorship process more straightforward. Australian professionals should confirm that any offer letter specifies the role as full-time, as E-3 status requires a legitimate employer-employee relationship.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 technology jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
