Tips for Finding E-3 Sponsorship Jobs in California
Target the Bay Area and Los Angeles first
San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles account for the largest share of E-3 sponsoring employers in California. Focusing your search on these metro areas before expanding to Sacramento or San Diego gives you a higher starting density of eligible roles.
Use DOL LCA data to identify active sponsors
The Department of Labor's OFLC disclosure data lists every certified Labor Condition Application by state and employer. Filtering for California E-3 LCA filings shows you which companies have sponsored recently, giving you a targeted list of proven sponsors.
Look beyond large tech employers
While companies like Apple, Google, and Salesforce file significant E-3 volumes, mid-size biotechnology firms in South San Francisco and San Diego, professional services firms, and healthcare systems across California also sponsor consistently and often have less competitive hiring pipelines.
Search filtered job boards built for visa sponsorship
General job boards don't filter by visa type, which means most listings won't clarify sponsorship availability. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for E-3 sponsorship jobs in California, removing the guesswork of which postings are actually viable for Australian applicants.
Align your degree field with the job description carefully
California employers in specialty occupations often phrase degree requirements as 'preferred' rather than 'required.' For E-3 eligibility, the role must require a specific bachelor's degree. Review job descriptions closely to confirm the degree requirement is stated clearly before applying.
Engage California-based immigration attorneys early
Many California employers, especially smaller tech and biotech companies, are open to E-3 sponsorship but unfamiliar with the process. An immigration attorney familiar with California employer practices can help you present the visa as a straightforward option during offer negotiations.

Which industries in California sponsor the most E-3 visas?
Technology is the leading industry for E-3 visa sponsorship in California, concentrated in Silicon Valley and the broader Bay Area. Life sciences and biotechnology follow closely, particularly in San Diego and South San Francisco. Professional services, financial services, healthcare, and engineering consulting firms across Los Angeles and the Bay Area also represent significant E-3 sponsorship activity.
Which cities in California have the most E-3 sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and San Jose have the highest concentration of E-3 sponsoring employers in California, driven by the technology sector. Los Angeles is the second major hub, with strength in entertainment, finance, and professional services. San Diego is notable for life sciences and defense-adjacent engineering roles. Sacramento has a smaller but growing base of public sector and healthcare employers.
What types of roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship in California?
Roles that qualify for E-3 sponsorship in California must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the job. Software engineering, data science, financial analysis, civil and mechanical engineering, registered nursing, architecture, and management consulting roles commonly meet this standard. General management or administrative roles without a specific degree requirement typically do not qualify.
How do I find E-3 sponsorship jobs in California?
The most efficient approach combines multiple methods. Migrate Mate lists E-3 visa sponsorship jobs in California filtered by visa type, so you can browse roles from employers who have confirmed sponsorship willingness without sifting through listings that won't apply to you. Pairing that with DOL OFLC disclosure data to identify California employers with a history of E-3 LCA filings gives you a strong, targeted employer list.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
