Which construction companies sponsor E-3 visas in California?
Firms with established international hiring practices and large California operations are the most consistent E-3 visa sponsors. These include engineering-focused contractors like Bechtel, Jacobs, AECOM, and Turner Construction, which regularly hire for roles requiring specific technical degrees. Smaller specialty contractors do sponsor E-3 visas, but large firms with dedicated HR and legal teams are generally better equipped to manage the LCA and visa process.
Which cities in California have the most construction E-3 sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area lead in sponsored construction roles, driven by ongoing commercial, transit, and infrastructure projects. Los Angeles is close behind, with major public works and private development activity. San Diego has a steady pipeline tied to defense infrastructure and urban development. Sacramento also sees demand around state government construction programs and regional transit expansion.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it must normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. In construction, roles that commonly meet this threshold include civil engineers, structural engineers, project engineers, cost estimators with engineering backgrounds, and construction managers with a relevant technical degree. General site labor, trades, and supervisory roles without degree requirements typically do not qualify.
How do I find construction E-3 sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type (E-3) and industry to surface California construction roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because E-3 eligibility depends on both the employer's ability to file an LCA and the role qualifying as a specialty occupation, Migrate Mate's filters help you focus on positions that are realistically accessible rather than sorting through general job listings manually.
Are there California-specific considerations for E-3 construction sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements add a layer of complexity beyond federal LCA obligations. Employers must certify they're paying at least the prevailing wage under both the Department of Labor's LCA process and California's own wage standards, which can be higher. Projects funded by California public agencies may also be subject to state prevailing wage law under DIR regulations, which employers factor into compensation and hiring decisions for sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 construction jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
