Which healthcare companies sponsor E-3 visas in California?
California's largest health systems are among the most active E-3 sponsors in the country. Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCSF Health, Stanford Health Care, Dignity Health, and Sutter Health have all filed Labor Condition Applications supporting E-3 workers in healthcare roles. Academic medical centers attached to UC campuses in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Davis are particularly active sponsors for clinical and research-oriented positions.
Which cities in California have the most healthcare E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area account for the largest share of healthcare E-3 sponsorship activity in California, driven by the concentration of major hospital systems and academic medical centers. San Diego has a strong presence in biomedical and clinical research hiring. Sacramento is a growing market anchored by UC Davis Health and Sutter Health. Smaller but active markets include Orange County and the Inland Empire.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship applies to specialty occupation roles, meaning the position must require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. In healthcare, this covers registered nurses with a relevant degree, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, medical laboratory scientists, health informatics specialists, clinical researchers, and healthcare administrators. Direct patient care roles that require only a vocational certificate rather than a degree-level qualification generally do not qualify.
How do I find healthcare E-3 sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for healthcare E-3 sponsorship jobs in California, with listings filtered specifically for E-3 eligible roles so you're not wasting time on employers who don't sponsor. Beyond the job board, targeting California's large health systems directly and applying through their careers portals can be effective, particularly for UCSF Health, Cedars-Sinai, and Kaiser Permanente, which have established international hiring processes.
Are there any state-specific considerations for healthcare E-3 workers in California?
California has its own professional licensing requirements that operate independently of federal visa approval. For example, registered nurses must obtain a California Board of Registered Nursing license, and physical therapists must be licensed through the California Physical Therapy Board before practicing. Processing times for California professional licenses can take several months, so it's important to start the licensing application early and confirm license eligibility before relying on an employment start date.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 healthcare jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
