Which education companies and institutions sponsor E-3 visas in California?
The University of California system (including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego) and the California State University system are among the most active sponsors, given their scale and international hiring needs. Private universities like Stanford and USC also sponsor E-3 visa holders. On the EdTech side, companies headquartered or with major California offices, such as Instructure (Canvas), have sponsored E-3 applications for specialty roles.
Which cities in California have the most education E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area account for the largest share of education E-3 roles in California. LA is home to UCLA, USC, and a dense cluster of K-12 and EdTech employers. The Bay Area hosts Stanford, UC Berkeley, and a concentration of EdTech companies. San Diego has strong higher education presence through UC San Diego and several research institutions, making it a third meaningful market.
What types of education roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship in California?
Roles that qualify must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the position. In education, this commonly includes curriculum developers, instructional designers, educational technologists, research scientists, academic advisors with specialist credentials, and faculty positions. General teaching aide or administrative support roles typically do not qualify because they don't require a degree in a specific discipline.
How do I find education E-3 sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type (E-3), industry (Education), and location (California) to see roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because E-3 sponsorship depends on employer participation and role eligibility, using a filtered platform like Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to manually reviewing postings that don't address visa sponsorship at all.
Are there California-specific considerations for E-3 sponsorship in education?
California's public university system is subject to state hiring rules that can affect sponsorship timelines, including union agreements and classification systems that determine whether a role formally requires a degree in a specific field. For EdTech companies, California's strict employment laws around worker classification also come into play. Australian E-3 applicants should confirm with a prospective employer that the specific role, not just the general job category, has been evaluated for specialty occupation eligibility before beginning the application process.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 education jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
