Which construction companies sponsor Green Card visas in California?
Large general contractors and engineering firms operating in California, including Webcor Builders, DPR Construction, Tutor Perini, and Skanska USA, have historically filed employment-based Green Card petitions. Multinational engineering and construction firms with California offices, such as AECOM and Jacobs Engineering, also sponsor workers for permanent residence, particularly for specialized engineering and project management roles. Sponsorship decisions depend on individual hiring needs and are not guaranteed.
Which cities in California have the most construction Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area generate the highest volume of construction Green Card sponsorship activity, driven by large-scale infrastructure, transit, and commercial development projects. San Jose, San Diego, and Sacramento also see consistent demand, particularly tied to public infrastructure spending, housing development, and commercial construction. Metropolitan areas with active public agency contracts tend to concentrate the most internationally sponsored construction roles.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in California?
Roles most commonly sponsored under employment-based Green Card categories include civil engineers, structural engineers, project managers, construction managers, estimators, and BIM coordinators. These positions typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, aligning with EB-2 or EB-3 classifications. Skilled trades roles can qualify under EB-3, though sponsorship for those positions is less common than for professional and technical positions.
How do I find construction Green Card sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters construction jobs in California that include Green Card sponsorship. Rather than sorting through thousands of listings where sponsorship is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor, saving significant time. Filtering by California and the construction category gives you a targeted list relevant to your situation.
Are there California-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in construction?
California's prevailing wage requirements under state labor law apply to many public works projects, which can affect the wage levels employers must certify when filing a PERM labor certification, a key step in most employment-based Green Card cases. Additionally, California's high volume of public infrastructure contracts means many sponsoring employers are subject to strict compliance oversight, so the PERM process tends to be carefully documented. Working with an employer experienced in sponsorship is important given these requirements.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card construction jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
