About Checkr

Checkr’s innovative technology and robust data platform help customers assess risk and ensure safety and compliance to build trusted workplaces and communities. Checkr has over 100,000 customers including Amazon, DoorDash, Netflix, Kimpton, and Anthropic.
We’re a team that thrives on solving complex problems with innovative solutions that advance our mission. Checkr is recognized on Forbes Cloud 100 2025 List and is a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company.
About the role
The Verifications team is responsible for one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios, an ever growing suite of screening products empowering informed decisions across our enterprise customers. Employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work – are several of the products this team improves to drive growth and customer retention. Our customers place candidates into widely different roles, industries, and regulatory environments, each with distinct compliance and screening requirements, necessitating rapid product iteration across multiple fronts concurrently.
As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you'll own a wide surface area with meaningful room to make it better — improving accuracy and turnaround time, reducing manual touchpoints, and scaling how the team delivers across a complex mix of fulfillment integrations and compliance requirements. This role requires a focus on both immediate system scalability and long-term delivery process refinement. This includes near-term work on scaling data quality and automation systems to handle rapid growth, alongside strategic, longer-horizon investments in expanding coverage and building a faster, more consistent verification experience for our rapidly scaling candidate and customer base.
What you’ll do
- Lead and grow the Verifications engineering team — setting technical direction, driving performance and career development conversations, and building a hiring pipeline that strengthens the team over time
- Own the reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations — partnering closely with vendors and internal stakeholders to reduce friction, improve turnaround times, and minimize candidate and customer impact when issues arise
- Partner with Product to define and execute the roadmap across employment, education, drug and health, and compliance products — translating customer and regulatory requirements into clear engineering priorities
- Drive technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system — making deliberate architecture decisions that improve coverage, reduce manual exceptions, and build toward a more automated and consistent verification experience
- Lead the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices — helping engineers move faster while maintaining the quality and accuracy standards that a regulated, data-sensitive product requires
- Represent Verifications in cross-functional planning — serving as the engineering voice on team capacity, tradeoffs, and roadmap sequencing with Product, Compliance, and Engineering leadership
What you bring
- 4+ years as an engineering manager, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
- 8+ years as a software engineer, with strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design
- Experience managing complex third-party integration environments — you’re comfortable owning reliability across systems you don’t fully control, and know how to structure teams and processes around that reality
- A track record of improving operational metrics — reducing incident frequency, improving detection time, or shipping reliability improvements in high-stakes production environments
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools — you understand how to help your team adopt these responsibly and can reason about the tradeoffs between velocity and quality they introduce
- Experience working on regulated products where data accuracy and legal compliance are non-negotiable
- Strong incident management skills — you can lead both the technical response and the stakeholder communication when things go wrong
- Ability to make prioritization decisions quickly, with a clear framework for balancing short-term reliability work against longer-term product investments
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders — Product, Operations, Compliance, and senior leadership
- A genuine investment in developing people — through career conversations, stretch assignments, and creating conditions for engineers to grow
- Humility, openness to feedback, and eagerness to learn
- An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes

Which companies sponsor visas for engineering managers in Colorado?
Google's Boulder and Denver offices, Palantir Technologies, and Lockheed Martin are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for engineering manager roles in Colorado. Large tech employers like Oracle and Databricks also maintain a presence in the Denver metro. Defense contractors concentrated in Colorado Springs, including Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, regularly sponsor senior engineering leadership roles.
Which visa types are most common for engineering manager roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa for engineering managers in Colorado, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability or sustained recognition may also qualify for the O-1A. Multinational managers transferring from an overseas office of the same company can explore the L-1A intracompany transferee visa.
Which cities in Colorado have the most engineering manager sponsorship jobs?
Denver and Boulder account for the majority of engineering manager visa sponsorship activity in Colorado, driven by established tech campuses and a dense startup ecosystem. Colorado Springs is a secondary hub with strong demand from defense and aerospace contractors. Fort Collins, home to Hewlett Packard Enterprise facilities and Colorado State University spinouts, also generates a modest but consistent pipeline of engineering management roles.
How to find engineering manager visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse engineering manager openings in Colorado without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions from employers with a documented history of H-1B filings for engineering leadership roles. Filtering by Colorado and the engineering manager category on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify active opportunities.
Are there any Colorado-specific considerations for engineering managers seeking visa sponsorship?
Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers to disclose compensation ranges in job postings, which gives visa applicants useful context when evaluating whether an offer will meet the prevailing wage requirements tied to an H-1B Labor Condition Application. The state's concentration of federal contractors also means some engineering manager roles carry security clearance requirements, which can complicate or limit sponsorship for non-citizens. Checking clearance eligibility before applying is important for roles in the Colorado Springs defense corridor.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering manager jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
