Which legal companies sponsor visas in Colorado?
Major Colorado law firms that sponsor visas include Holland & Hart, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, Wheeler Trigg O'Donnell, and Faegre Drinker. Corporate legal departments at companies like Arrow Electronics, Ball Corporation, and Newmont also sponsor attorneys for specialized roles. Denver's Big Law offices and boutique firms focusing on energy, technology, and intellectual property law are particularly active sponsors.
What visa types are most common for legal roles in Colorado?
H-1B visas are most common for attorney positions requiring specialized legal expertise. O-1 visas are used for internationally recognized legal professionals, particularly those with expertise in energy law or international arbitration. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican attorneys in specific practice areas. Some firms also sponsor EB-2 and EB-3 green cards for permanent positions.
How to find legal visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international legal professionals with Colorado firms that sponsor visas. Focus on Denver's downtown legal district and Boulder's tech-focused practices. Target firms with energy, natural resources, and technology practices, as these areas have the highest demand for specialized international talent. Many positions require bar admission or eligibility.
Which Colorado cities have the most legal sponsorship opportunities?
Denver dominates with the highest concentration of visa-sponsoring law firms, including most major practices downtown. Boulder offers opportunities with technology-focused firms and university-affiliated legal roles. Colorado Springs has some federal contracting and military law positions. Fort Collins and Aspen have smaller but specialized markets in business law and resort-related legal services.
What are the bar admission requirements for international attorneys in Colorado?
Colorado allows foreign-educated attorneys to take the bar exam if their legal education is substantially equivalent to a U.S. law degree, as determined by the Colorado Board of Law Examiners. Most visa-sponsored positions require Colorado bar admission within a specific timeframe. Some firms hire pending bar results, particularly for candidates with LL.M. degrees from U.S. law schools.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored legal jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
