Which legal companies sponsor visas in Washington?
Major Seattle law firms like Perkins Coie, Foster Garvey, and K&L Gates regularly sponsor H-1B and other work visas for attorneys and legal professionals. Corporate legal departments at Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, and Starbucks also sponsor visa holders for in-house counsel positions, compliance roles, and specialized legal functions.
How to find legal visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international legal professionals with Washington employers who sponsor work visas. Focus on Seattle's major law firms and Bellevue's corporate headquarters, which have established visa sponsorship programs. Immigration law firms and technology companies' legal departments are particularly open to sponsoring international talent.
Which visa types are most common for legal roles in Washington?
H-1B visas are most frequently used for attorneys, paralegals, and legal analysts in Washington. O-1 visas apply to lawyers with extraordinary ability in specialized areas like immigration or international trade law. L-1 visas are common for international lawyers transferring to Seattle offices of global firms.
Which cities in Washington have the most legal sponsorship jobs?
Seattle dominates with the highest concentration of law firms and corporate legal departments offering visa sponsorship. Bellevue follows closely due to its technology companies requiring extensive legal support. Tacoma and Spokane have fewer opportunities but some regional firms and government contractors do sponsor visas.
Do Washington legal employers prefer specific educational backgrounds for visa sponsorship?
Washington legal employers often prefer candidates with U.S. law degrees (J.D.) or LLM programs for foreign lawyers. University of Washington Law School graduates have strong local connections. Technology law experience, intellectual property background, or international trade expertise significantly strengthens sponsorship cases given the state's industry focus.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored legal jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
