H-1B visas are most common for consulting roles in Washington, particularly for management consultants, business analysts, and strategy consultants. O-1 visas are used for senior consultants with specialized expertise in emerging technologies like AI or cloud computing. Washington's lack of state income tax makes it attractive for consulting professionals, but prevailing wages for H-1B applications are typically higher in Seattle than other Washington cities due to cost of living. Technology consulting roles generally command premium wages compared to general management consulting.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored consulting jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
