Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Delaware?
ChristianaCare, one of the largest health systems in the mid-Atlantic region, is Delaware's most prominent physician visa sponsor. Nemours Children's Health sponsors physicians in pediatric specialties, while Bayhealth Medical Center covers central and southern Delaware. VA Medical Centers in the region also sponsor physicians through federal hiring pipelines, which operate outside the standard H-1B visa cap.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Delaware?
The H-1B visa is the most widely used category for physicians in Delaware, particularly for specialists. The J-1 visa is common for physicians completing residency or fellowship training, though it typically carries a two-year home residency requirement that may require a waiver before practicing long-term. The EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories are frequently used for physicians pursuing permanent residence, often with National Interest Waiver eligibility in underserved areas.
Which cities in Delaware have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the largest concentration of physician sponsorship opportunities in Delaware, driven by ChristianaCare's flagship hospital campus and Nemours Children's Hospital. Newark, home to ChristianaCare's second major campus and proximity to the University of Delaware, also sees consistent demand. Dover and Milford serve central and southern Delaware populations, with Bayhealth operating facilities in both cities and regularly recruiting sponsored physicians.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters physician job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify Delaware employers actively hiring international candidates. Search by physician specialty and Delaware location to surface roles at health systems like ChristianaCare and Nemours. Focusing on hospital-employed physician positions rather than independent practice groups generally yields more sponsorship opportunities, as larger systems have established immigration processes.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician visa sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware participates in the J-1 visa waiver Conrad 30 program, which allows foreign national physicians who completed a J-1 exchange program to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to work in a designated underserved area for three years. Delaware's Division of Public Health administers this program with a limited number of slots annually. Physicians in primary care and psychiatry are typically prioritized given persistent shortage designations in parts of the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
