Which companies sponsor visas for school nurses in Florida?
The largest sponsors of school nurse positions in Florida are public school districts, particularly Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, and Orange County Public Schools. Some private and charter school networks also sponsor nurses, as do university student health centers. Staffing agencies contracted with Florida school districts have sponsored H-1B visa and EB-3 petitions for qualified nursing candidates in prior years.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in Florida?
The H-1B visa is the most common route for school nurses classified as specialty occupation roles, typically requiring a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The EB-3 employment-based green card is also used by Florida school employers willing to sponsor permanent residence. Nurses who are already authorized to work in the U.S. on TN visa, O-1 visa, or EAD status may also find school nurse openings without requiring a new employer-filed petition.
Which cities in Florida have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando have the highest concentration of school nurse sponsorship opportunities, driven by the size of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Orange County school districts. Tampa and Jacksonville also generate consistent demand. South Florida in particular has historically recruited internationally trained nurses to fill persistent shortages across both public and private school systems.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Florida. The platform filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor work visas, so you can focus on Florida-based school districts, healthcare staffing firms, and private schools actively hiring. Filtering by role and state on Migrate Mate helps you avoid postings that don't include sponsorship, saving significant time in your search.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking visa sponsorship in Florida?
Florida requires school nurses to hold an active Florida Registered Nurse license issued by the Florida Board of Nursing, which internationally trained nurses must obtain before most employers will file a visa petition. Florida does not have a state income tax, which affects overall compensation comparisons. Public school employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements when sponsoring H-1B petitions, and some districts require additional school health certifications beyond RN licensure.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
