Which aerospace and defense companies in Georgia sponsor F-1 OPT visas?
Lockheed Martin's Marietta facility, which supports large-scale aircraft programs, has a documented history of hiring international graduates. Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah regularly recruits engineering talent and has supported OPT authorization. Boeing, L3Harris, and Raytheon also maintain Georgia operations with technical hiring. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and varies by role, department, and headcount, so confirming OPT support directly with recruiters is essential.
Which cities in Georgia have the most aerospace and defense F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Marietta and the broader Atlanta metro area lead Georgia for aerospace and defense hiring, driven by Lockheed Martin's F-35 and C-130 program work and a concentration of defense subcontractors. Savannah is the second major hub, centered on Gulfstream's design and manufacturing operations. Warner Robins, home to Robins Air Force Base, also supports a significant defense contractor workforce, particularly in maintenance, logistics, and systems support roles.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Georgia?
Roles in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, software development, avionics, and quality assurance are the most common OPT-eligible positions in Georgia's aerospace sector. These positions generally require a relevant bachelor's or master's degree, which aligns with OPT's requirement that work must be directly related to your field of study. Roles requiring active U.S. security clearances are typically not accessible to F-1 OPT holders.
How do I find aerospace and defense F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate lists aerospace and defense positions in Georgia filtered specifically for F-1 OPT candidates, removing the guesswork of identifying which employers support international students. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, you can search directly by visa type and industry to surface roles at Georgia employers like Gulfstream and Lockheed Martin that have shown willingness to hire OPT workers. Confirming OPT support with each employer's HR team before applying is always advisable.
Are there any Georgia-specific considerations for F-1 OPT sponsorship in aerospace and defense?
Georgia's defense industry is heavily tied to federal contracting, which means many roles require U.S. citizenship or a security clearance, limiting OPT eligibility more than in commercial aerospace. Gulfstream's Savannah operations are more accessible to OPT candidates because much of the work is in business aviation rather than classified defense programs. Georgia also hosts several research universities near aerospace employers, and STEM OPT extensions of up to 24 months apply to qualifying degrees in engineering and related fields.
