Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Georgia?
Emory Healthcare, Wellstar Health System, Piedmont Healthcare, Grady Health System, and Augusta University Medical Center are among the most active physician sponsors in Georgia. Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural hospitals designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas also sponsor international physicians, often under J-1 waiver programs tied to underserved community service obligations.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Georgia?
The J-1 Exchange Visitor visa is the most common pathway for physicians completing residency or fellowship training in Georgia. For direct employment, the H-1B is widely used, though it requires winning the annual lottery. Conrad 30 J-1 waivers, which allow physicians to remain in the U.S. by committing to underserved areas, are particularly relevant in Georgia given its rural shortage designations.
Which cities in Georgia have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta accounts for the largest share of physician sponsorship activity in Georgia, anchored by its concentration of major health systems and academic medical centers. Augusta, home to Augusta University Medical Center, is a strong secondary market. Savannah, Macon, and Columbus also have active hiring, particularly through regional hospital networks serving surrounding rural populations.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters physician roles in Georgia by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sorting through listings that won't support your immigration needs. You can browse positions across Atlanta health systems, academic medical centers in Augusta, and rural hospitals, all confirmed to be open to sponsoring international physicians.
Are there state-specific considerations for international physicians seeking sponsorship in Georgia?
Georgia participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which allocates up to 30 waivers annually for physicians who agree to practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas for at least three years. The Georgia Physicians for Rural Areas program administers this process. Physicians pursuing this route should be aware that placement is tied to specific underserved communities, and position availability through this channel is limited each fiscal year.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
