Search Events Jobs in IllinoisEvents Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for events roles in Illinois?
Large hospitality and convention groups are the most consistent sponsors for events roles in Illinois. Hyatt Hotels Corporation, headquartered in Chicago, has a strong H-1B visa sponsorship history. The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which operates McCormick Place, and major venue operators like Marriott and Loews Hotels have also sponsored international candidates for event coordination and operations positions.
Which visa types are most common for events roles in Illinois?
The H-1B visa is the most common path for international events professionals in Illinois, particularly for roles like event operations manager, conference services manager, or corporate events coordinator where a relevant bachelor's degree is required. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrated exceptional achievement in event production or entertainment management, though it requires substantial documented recognition.
How to find events visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters events roles specifically by visa sponsorship history, making it easier to identify Illinois employers who have sponsored international candidates before. Search for event coordinator, event manager, or conference services roles filtered to Illinois cities like Chicago and Rosemont. Focusing on employers with verified sponsorship records significantly narrows the field compared to applying broadly.
Which cities in Illinois have the most events sponsorship jobs?
Chicago is by far the primary hub, home to McCormick Place (one of the largest convention centers in North America), the Hyatt Regency Chicago, and dozens of corporate headquarters that maintain in-house events teams. Rosemont, adjacent to O'Hare International Airport, also concentrates event activity around the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and nearby hotel properties with active hiring.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for international events professionals?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the specific metropolitan area, with Chicago wage levels typically reflecting a high-cost urban market. International students completing hospitality or event management programs at universities like DePaul University or Roosevelt University in Chicago sometimes pursue OPT employment locally before seeking full sponsorship, which can strengthen employer relationships ahead of an H-1B petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored events jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
