About the University of Illinois Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy
The UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking a full-time, motivated professional for the position of Clinical Faculty (Open Rank)/Clinical Pharmacist who will be assigned to UI Health’s Hematology/Oncology services.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients in the areas of hematology and oncology, both in the hospital and at on-site clinics at the University of Illinois Hospital. The hospital is a 450-bed academic institution located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago. The hospital serves an urban, indigent patient population.
It is among a select group of medical centers accredited by the Commission on Cancer. Cancer services at UI Health are comprised of several programs committed to diagnosing and treating common and rare cancers, including breast, colorectal, gynecologic, head & neck, hematologic/blood, lung, and other cancers.
The Retzky College of Pharmacy, with campuses in Chicago and Rockford, is the #1 college of pharmacy in the state of Illinois and #6 in total research grant funding, according to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Duties:
The hematology and oncology clinical pharmacist team will consist of 7 pharmacists who are integral members of the hospital's and clinics' multidisciplinary teams. The Clinical Pharmacist's duties include:
- Medication review and reconciliation
- Medication selection and dosing recommendations
- TPN management
- Immunosuppression and infectious disease prophylaxis selection
- Management of nausea and pain
- Therapeutic drug monitoring
- Provision of drug information
- Patient education
- Nurse, physician, and pharmacy staff development
- Coordinating and conducting quality improvement projects
- Developing collaborative treatment and research protocols
The academic responsibilities of the clinical faculty member (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) include the provision of didactic lectures and precepting entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents, and PGY2 residents. Scholarly activities, including presentations and publications, are an expectation as well.
Qualifications
- PharmD and PGY1 residency experience required.
- PGY2 residency in Oncology, or 2-3 years of equivalent clinical experience as a clinical pharmacist in hematology and oncology, is required.
- Candidates must present evidence of, or eligibility for, Illinois licensure as a professional pharmacist at time of employment.
- Highly preferred: strong clinical knowledge base; analytical and problem-solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to consistently meet deadlines; demonstrate flexibility and ability to work independently and adapt to a changing work environment; excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills.
- Academic rank commensurate with experience.
