The Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW) at The University of Arizona invites applications for a Community Outreach Manager to start as soon as possible. SIROW is a resource and research institute that designs, implements, and evaluates community-collaborative projects to improve community well-being.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary group of researchers and scholars at SIROW on ongoing grant-funded projects concerning the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs serving traditionally underserved, marginalized, and health-disparate populations, such as individuals involved in the justice system and individuals experiencing homelessness. The programs are in the subareas of behavioral health, sexual and relationship health, education, housing stability, and economic well-being. The successful candidate is expected to play a substantial role in leading, managing, and carrying out a variety of applied community-based educational, cultural, and recreational research and action projects responsive to community-identified needs and supportive of the community. This position is supported by grant funding.

Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

• Lead, manage, and implement applied community-based projects.
• Develop and implement collaborative educational, cultural, and recreational projects responsive to community-identified needs.
• Direct efforts of project teams, supervisees, and external partners to ensure project goals and objectives are achieved.
• Support the professional development of community members and supervisees.
• Monitor and approve grant-funded project expenditures.
• Develop procedural guidance to support project implementation and team coordination.

Partnership Development & Coordination

• Establish and maintain partnerships with community-based agencies and university entities.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for SIROW projects.
• Convene and facilitate meetings with project teams and partners.

Project Findings Dissemination

• Create and disseminate project findings via papers, presentations, project findings briefs, and other communications to a variety of audiences and stakeholders including community members.

Research & Program Evaluation

• Contribute to research/program evaluation activities.
• This includes directing, monitoring, and supporting the research/evaluation components of SIROW's applied community-based projects.
• Primary tasks include:
• Collecting primary data via focus groups and structured interviews.
• Conducting data quality checks, managing datasets, and coding qualitative data.
• Some qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

Grant Development & Institutional Support

• Contribute to efforts to obtain extramural funding from agencies such as SAMHSA, NSF, and private foundations to support SIROW community-focused collaborative projects; their own work on these projects, and the work of other SIROW personnel.
• Engage in activities that promote SIROW as a premier innovative community collaborative research institute.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge, experience, and competency working with multifaceted communities, including people experiencing homelessness and who have substance misuse issues and involvement with the criminal justice system.
• Skilled at building positive rapport, engaging in positive interactions with others, and developing close and ongoing relationships.
• Skilled in conducting program evaluation and community-based applied research, including experience conducting focus groups and structured data collection interviews.
• Proactive communicator, strategist, and problem-solver.
• Creative, thoughtful, and intentional.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to be highly responsive to communications.
• Ability to provide exceptional follow-through on tasks and initiatives.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-part collaborative team, taking into consideration perspectives from partners, community members, internal team members, and federal funders.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Skilled at lower-level standard qualitative and quantitative data management, data quality checks, and data analysis and interpretation.
• Ability to meet agency standards for attendance and punctuality.
• Skilled at effective work habits and professional judgment and ethics.
• Ability to travel within and out of state.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
• Position may require travel within Arizona and Out of State.
• Position may require work some evenings or weekends.
• Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• MA degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
• Experience in conducting community collaborative research and action projects involving diverse communities, including people experiencing homelessness.
• Experience in project dissemination activities including presenting findings to stakeholders, funders, and the community.
• Experience in project and personnel management and supervision.
• Experience with project management, including monitoring project expenditures to align with project budgets.
• Experience with project development and writing grant applications.
• Experience with project management and/or supervision of research and evaluation.
• Proficiency in Spanish.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
