Which agriculture companies sponsor H-2A visas in Illinois?
Illinois H-2A certifications are filed by a mix of crop farms, nursery operations, and sod producers. Growers in McLean, Sangamon, and Bureau counties have appeared in Department of Labor disclosure data for field crop and vegetable positions. Larger agricultural staffing associations also file on behalf of multiple member farms, which is common in Illinois given the prevalence of mid-size family operations that share a single H-2A agent.
Which cities in Illinois have the most agriculture H-2A sponsorship jobs?
H-2A activity in Illinois is heaviest in the central and north-central regions rather than any single city. Areas around Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, and the Quad Cities corridor see consistent filings tied to row crop and specialty agriculture operations. Downstate counties near Champaign and Kankakee also generate seasonal openings, particularly during corn, soybean, and vegetable harvest windows from August through October.
What types of agriculture roles typically qualify for H-2A sponsorship in Illinois?
Qualifying roles under H-2A must be temporary or seasonal in nature and tied directly to agricultural labor. In Illinois, this covers field crop workers, vegetable harvesters, nursery and greenhouse laborers, sod cutters, irrigation technicians, and livestock handlers on qualifying operations. Roles that involve primarily administrative, sales, or processing plant work generally do not qualify under H-2A, which is limited to on-farm agricultural activities.
How do I find agriculture H-2A sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate lists agriculture H-2A sponsorship jobs in Illinois with filters by visa type and industry, so you can search specifically for H-2A-certified openings rather than sorting through general farm job postings. Because H-2A positions are tied to seasonal certification cycles, checking Migrate Mate regularly as spring and fall hiring windows open gives you the best chance of catching active listings before positions are filled.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-2A sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois employers filing H-2A petitions must comply with both federal DOL requirements and Illinois state labor protections, including the Illinois One Day Rest in Seven Act and applicable state housing standards for provided worker accommodations. The state's short but intensive harvest windows, particularly for corn and soybeans, mean job start and end dates in certified petitions are closely tied to weather and crop conditions, which can affect the actual duration of employment.
