Position Summary:
The Family Engagement Coach partners with families to identify strengths and needs, building trust and positive, goal-orientated relationships. Through a relationship-driven coaching model, this position works jointly with families to develop and achieve goals, combining their strengths, skills, and resources to support positive outcomes for children and families. This position ensures high-quality, culturally responsive family engagement services aligned with the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and the Parent, Family & Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework. The Family Engagement Coach collaborates with community partners and internal teams to build strong family partnerships and ensure coordinated, trauma-informed services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Family Engagement Systems & Compliance
- Engages families in family partnership process and implements assessment procedures to identify family strengths and needs related to the family engagement outcomes in the Head Start Parent Family and Community Engagement Framework (PCFE).
- Partners with families to develop and reach realistic and achievable goals, utilizing coaching to support ongoing collaboration and progress toward goals.
- Supports families in addressing challenges or needs that affect their well-being (e.g., mental illness, substance abuse, disabilities, family violence) through coaching and connecting them to community resources.
- Implements policies, procedures, and systems for family engagement services in accordance with HSPPS and the Head Start Act.
- Ensures federal, state, and program documentation requirements are met by maintaining accurate, objective, complete, and timely documentation in ChildPlus, center files, and other data systems, including family goals, referrals, follow-up and progress and case notes.
- Ensures the mobilization and documentation of matching/in-kind funds.
- Maintains relationships with families through frequent contact via home visits, phone calls, monthly goal check-ins, and informal interactions, ensuring safe and professional engagement.
Program Collaboration & Integration
- Partners with Education, Health, Disabilities, and ERSEA teams to integrate family engagement strategies across all service areas.
- Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, case management, and other planning to ensure coordinated approaches for services is achieved creating a strong home to school connection, sharing relevant information while maintaining confidentiality to protect Personally Identifiable Information.
- Promotes a unified approach to sharing child information with families by engaging in joint planning with teachers, home visitors, support staff and specialists attending parent contact sessions as needed.
- Supports transition planning for children entering kindergarten or moving between program options.
Family & Community Partnerships
- Builds and maintains relationships with community agencies to expand resources and referral networks for families. This involves, but is not limited to, collaboratively creating Memorandums of Understanding with agencies, tracking referral outcomes, assessing the impact of community collaborations, and participation in community action meetings.
- In conjunction with center leadership, coordinates and evaluates the effectiveness of workshops, parent meetings, and training sessions, including parent curriculum and male engagement, family engagement activities, and parent leadership opportunities, utilizing data to inform and adjust activities.
- Provides information and education to parents and the community about available programs and resources through in-person, phone, or group presentations.
- May support outreach and enrollment efforts by communicating eligibility, selection, and enrollment policies to families, community partners, and the public.
Safety, Health, and Program Operations
- Protects the safety of children by ensuring the implementation of active supervision techniques so that no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time.
- Tracks attendance and addresses barriers to consistent program participation to support school readiness and family outcomes.
- Attends center functions such as staff meetings, parent meetings, and special events and participates in shared program governance.
- Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- May translate as needed.
- During times of high need, may prepare intake/enrollment applications, documents eligibility information, and determines eligibility for the Program and USDA programs.
- May require flexibility, including working evenings and weekends, to participate in outreach and recruitment events.
- Works in cooperation with supervisor to develop and document progress on a professional development plan. Actively engages in professional development activities to increase qualifications in accordance with Corporation Core Values.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
SAFETY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensuring a secure workplace is a collective effort. All employees are responsible for adhering to established safe work practices and completing all mandatory safety training by the assigned due date.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory duties but is expected to train or explain work procedures to others.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or a related field required. A combination of experience and education may substitute the required Bachelor’s degree, such as:
- An Associates degree in Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or a related field, and 5 years of experience in family services, coaching, case management, or early childhood programs.
- If candidate does not have a Bachelor’s degree, within eighteen months of hire they must obtain a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in family services, coaching, case management, or early childhood programs.
- Experience providing adult training, coaching, or reflective supervision preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance.
A degree in a related field is defined as an associate, baccalaureate or advanced degree in a field other than social work that either includes or is supplemented by twelve (12) college credits in social services, family services or human services.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and the PFCE Framework.
- Understanding of using a Trauma-Informed Care approach to providing services, creating a safe and welcoming environment for staff, families, and children.
- Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse families and communities.
- Ability to facilitate adult learning sessions.
- Resourcefulness and ability to creatively address barriers to family engagement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online client management systems (ChildPlus preferred).
- Bilingual ability may be required.

Background Checks:
All employees are subject to a pre-hire state background check. Positions that Require Driving:
Telamon|TRC employees that are required to drive a personal vehicle for work-related duties are to meet the auto insurance liability requirement. The minimum limits required are $100,000 each person bodily injury, $300,000 each accident bodily injury and $50,000 property damage. The insurance liability requirement covers use of an employee’s personal vehicle. Telamon|TRC employees that drive a company-owned/rental vehicle must maintain a satisfactory annual motor vehicle record check.
