Which companies in Iowa sponsor visas for administrative assistants?
Large Iowa employers in insurance, healthcare, and education are the most active sponsors for administrative assistant roles. Principal Financial Group and Nationwide in Des Moines, UnityPoint Health and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, and the University of Iowa and Iowa State University in Iowa City and Ames have all filed for work visas on behalf of professional and administrative staff. Larger organizations with established HR infrastructure are generally better positioned to manage sponsorship.
What visa types are most common for administrative assistant roles in Iowa?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway, but it requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a specific bachelor's degree must be a standard requirement for the position. Many general administrative assistant roles do not meet this threshold. Roles with specialized functions, such as those supporting legal, medical, or financial operations, are more likely to qualify. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories.
Which cities in Iowa have the most administrative assistant visa sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines is Iowa's primary hub for administrative assistant sponsorship, driven by its concentration of financial services firms, insurance companies, and state government contractors. Cedar Rapids supports demand through its healthcare and manufacturing sectors. Iowa City and Ames see activity through the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, both of which regularly hire and sponsor international staff for administrative and research-support positions.
How to find administrative assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the United States. You can filter directly for administrative assistant roles in Iowa to see employers who are open to sponsoring work visas. Because sponsorship willingness is not always listed in standard job postings, Migrate Mate surfaces that information in one place, saving you time and helping you focus your applications on realistic opportunities.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for administrative assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
Iowa's cost of living is lower than the national average, which affects the prevailing wage calculations that employers must meet when sponsoring H-1B visa workers. The Department of Labor sets prevailing wages by occupation and location, so Iowa figures will differ from those in major coastal metros. University pipelines at the University of Iowa and Iowa State also mean that international students on OPT sometimes transition into sponsored administrative roles with their campus employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored administrative assistant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
