Which science and research companies sponsor Green Card visas in Iowa?
Iowa's leading Green Card sponsors in science and research include Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Agricultural biotechnology companies operating in the Ames and Des Moines areas, along with crop science and animal health firms, also have established sponsorship track records. Research institutes affiliated with Iowa's public universities are among the most consistent sponsors for scientists and research professionals.
Which cities in Iowa have the most science and research Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Ames and Iowa City account for the largest share of science and research Green Card sponsorship jobs in Iowa, driven by Iowa State University and the University of Iowa respectively. Des Moines supports a growing concentration of life sciences and clinical research positions. Cedar Rapids also has employer activity in agricultural science and food technology, making it a secondary market worth monitoring for research sponsorship roles.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Iowa?
Roles that commonly qualify include research scientists, postdoctoral researchers, laboratory directors, bioinformaticians, agricultural geneticists, and clinical research coordinators. Positions requiring a master's or doctoral degree in a specific scientific discipline tend to be sponsored through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories. University faculty and staff scientist positions at Iowa's research institutions are frequently sponsored, particularly when the role requires specialized expertise not readily available domestically.
How do I find science and research Green Card sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for science and research roles with verified Green Card sponsorship history in Iowa, so you can focus on employers who have completed the PERM labor certification process for comparable positions. Rather than sorting through general postings, Migrate Mate surfaces Iowa employers with documented sponsorship activity in research and scientific fields, making it a practical starting point for international candidates targeting permanent residency pathways in the state.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in science and research?
Iowa's science and research sector is heavily tied to agriculture, veterinary medicine, and crop biotechnology, which shapes the types of sponsored roles available. Many sponsoring employers are large public institutions subject to specific prevailing wage obligations under PERM labor certification. Iowa's relatively lower cost of living compared to coastal research hubs can affect prevailing wage determinations, so candidates should verify applicable wage levels through the OFLC Wage Search before evaluating offers.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card science & research jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
