Which companies sponsor visas for licensed practical nurses in Iowa?
The largest sponsors of licensed practical nurses in Iowa include UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Long-term care chains such as Accura HealthCare and Sunrise Retirement also have a track record of hiring internationally trained LPNs. Smaller rural critical access hospitals across the state occasionally sponsor as well, particularly when local recruitment pipelines fall short of staffing needs.
Which visa types are most common for licensed practical nurse roles in Iowa?
Most Iowa employers sponsor internationally trained LPNs through the EB-3 immigrant visa, which requires a PERM labor certification and employer-filed I-140 petition. The H-1B visa is generally not applicable because LPN roles do not consistently meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree. Some candidates enter on TN visa status if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals, provided the role qualifies under USMCA occupational categories.
Which cities in Iowa have the most licensed practical nurse sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines generates the highest volume of LPN sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of hospital systems and long-term care facilities. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City are the next most active markets, with Iowa City benefiting from proximity to the University of Iowa Health Care system. Davenport, as part of the Quad Cities metro, also sees consistent LPN hiring from regional health networks that cross the Iowa-Illinois border.
How to find licensed practical nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is specifically designed to help internationally trained nurses find visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa and across the U.S. You can filter directly by state and role to surface LPN positions where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because LPN sponsorship typically involves EB-3 processing with long timelines, reviewing active listings on Migrate Mate early gives you a head start on connecting with employers already familiar with the process.
Are there state-specific considerations for LPN visa sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa requires LPNs to hold an active Iowa nursing license through the Iowa Board of Nursing, and internationally trained nurses must have their credentials evaluated before applying for licensure. Iowa participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, meaning a multistate license issued by another compact state may be valid in Iowa without a separate application. Employers initiating EB-3 sponsorship must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for LPN roles in the specific Iowa county where the position is located.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored licensed practical nurse jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
