We are leaders in bridge, transit, foundation, tunnel, and water/wastewater construction while specializing in cast-in-place concrete, structural steel erection, earthwork, pile driving, and caissons. Kiewit’s Eastern District also has a large amount of work in the energy/power sector in various northeast locations. Location
This position will be based in Baltimore. Travel or relocation may be required down the road.
Responsibilities
- Perform visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds in accordance with AWS, ASME, and project-specific standards.
- Verify welding procedures (PQR’s & WPS’s), welder qualifications, and material certifications.
- Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with approved procedures and safety regulations.
- Perform visual inspections of welds to include: fit-up, root pass, filler beads and cap pass.
- Document inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with project engineers, quality team, and contractors to resolve welding-related issues.
- Ensure adherence to project safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Participate in root cause analysis for welding defects and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential from AWS (American Welding Society) – required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in welding inspection.
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5, and other relevant standards.
- Familiarity with various welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) and materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys).
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in challenging environments, including elevated structures and confined spaces.
- Must be able to work well and tactfully with welding personnel performing the welding in explaining deficient welds discovered during inspection.

- Work productively and meet deadlines timely
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
