Which companies sponsor visas for technical program managers in Maryland?
Maryland's federal contracting and defense technology sector drives much of the visa sponsorship activity for technical program managers. Companies like Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, Northrop Grumman, and SAIC have sponsored H-1B petitions for program management and engineering roles. On the commercial side, Emergent BioSolutions and cybersecurity firms in the Baltimore-Washington corridor have also filed sponsorships for technical program managers.
Which visa types are most common for technical program manager roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for technical program managers in Maryland, given that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA. Some senior candidates with significant industry recognition pursue the O-1A. Most Maryland employers sponsoring technical program managers file H-1B cap-subject petitions.
Which cities in Maryland have the most technical program manager sponsorship jobs?
The highest concentration of technical program manager sponsorship jobs in Maryland is in Montgomery County, particularly Bethesda, Rockville, and Gaithersburg, where federal agencies and their contractors cluster. Columbia and Hanover in Howard County are also active, sitting between Baltimore and Washington. Baltimore itself has a smaller but growing presence, particularly in cybersecurity and health IT driven by proximity to Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland.
How to find technical program manager visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and filters technical program manager roles in Maryland by employers with active sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through general job boards, you can use Migrate Mate to identify Maryland-based employers who have filed H-1B petitions for program management roles, saving time and surfacing opportunities that explicitly accommodate international applicants.
Are there state-specific considerations for technical program managers seeking sponsorship in Maryland?
Many Maryland employers in defense and federal contracting require security clearances, which can complicate sponsorship for foreign nationals since clearances are generally not granted to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This narrows the sponsorship-eligible technical program manager roles to commercial, health IT, and cybersecurity positions not tied to classified contracts. Candidates should focus on employers in biotech, cloud infrastructure, and financial technology, where clearance requirements are less common.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical program manager jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
