Search Physician Jobs in MassachusettsPhysician Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Massachusetts?
The most active physician visa sponsors in Massachusetts include Mass General Brigham, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children's Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, and UMass Memorial Health. Community health centers across the state, particularly those designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas, also sponsor physicians regularly and may have access to federal J-1 visa waiver programs that ease the sponsorship process.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa and J-1 are the two most common visa types for physicians in Massachusetts. J-1 is frequently used for residency and fellowship training through academic medical centers. Physicians completing J-1 training who want to remain in the U.S. typically pursue a J-1 waiver, often through the Conrad 30 program. H-1B is the standard pathway for attending physician roles at sponsoring hospitals and health systems.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Boston holds the largest concentration of physician sponsorship opportunities in Massachusetts, driven by its dense cluster of academic medical centers, research hospitals, and specialty clinics. Worcester is the next strongest market, anchored by UMass Memorial and the UMass Chan Medical School. Springfield, Lowell, and Fall River also have active physician hiring, particularly at community health organizations serving underserved populations.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, including physician roles in Massachusetts. You can filter by state and role to surface positions at hospitals, health systems, and community health centers that have a documented history of sponsoring visas. This is more efficient than searching general job boards that don't filter by sponsorship status or visa type.
Are there state-specific considerations for physicians seeking sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which allows up to 30 J-1 physicians per year to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to work in a medically underserved area for at least three years. Massachusetts General Law also requires physician licensure through the Board of Registration in Medicine before starting clinical work, so candidates should begin that process in parallel with visa sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
