Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for COO roles?
Michigan's largest visa sponsors for executive roles include Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, Dow Chemical, and Kellogg's. Major health systems like Spectrum Health and Henry Ford Health also sponsor senior leadership positions. Technology firms in the Ann Arbor area, including those connected to the University of Michigan's research ecosystem, have also sponsored COO-level talent from abroad.
Which visa types are most common for COO roles in Michigan?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for COO roles when the position requires a specialized bachelor's degree or higher. The L-1A intracompany transferee visa is frequently used for executives moving from a foreign affiliate of a Michigan-based multinational, particularly within the automotive sector. The O-1A is an option for candidates with a documented record of extraordinary achievement in their field.
Which cities in Michigan have the most COO sponsorship jobs?
Metro Detroit, including Dearborn and Auburn Hills, accounts for the largest share of COO-level sponsorship activity due to the concentration of automotive and manufacturing headquarters. Ann Arbor follows, driven by technology companies, life sciences firms, and university-affiliated organizations. Grand Rapids has a notable presence in healthcare and manufacturing, with West Michigan employers increasingly active in senior leadership hiring.
How to find coo visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters COO-level roles in Michigan specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you the time of sifting through postings that don't support international candidates. Because COO positions are high-competition and often filled through networks, searching Migrate Mate regularly and setting up alerts for new Michigan postings gives you an early advantage when sponsoring employers do post publicly.
Are there state-specific considerations for COO visa sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's dominant industries, automotive manufacturing, health systems, and chemical production, tend to sponsor COO roles through established multinational HR processes rather than ad hoc arrangements. Employers must meet prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor for the Ann Arbor or Detroit metro area, which are benchmarked to local executive compensation levels. University of Michigan and Michigan State alumni networks also serve as pipelines for internationally trained candidates reaching COO-track positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored coo jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
