Which science and research companies sponsor E-3 visas in Michigan?
Michigan employers with documented E-3 and specialty occupation filing history in science and research include the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Pfizer's Kalamazoo operations, Dow Inc., and Kellogg Company. Automotive-adjacent R&D employers such as Ford and General Motors also file for research scientists and engineers. Filing history varies by year and role, so verifying an employer's Labor Condition Application record before applying is worthwhile.
Which cities in Michigan have the most science and research E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Ann Arbor accounts for a disproportionate share of Michigan's science and research sponsorship activity, driven by the University of Michigan and its affiliated research institutes. Kalamazoo is a secondary hub for pharmaceutical and life sciences roles, largely tied to Pfizer's presence. East Lansing hosts Michigan State University research positions, and Midland supports materials science and chemical research through Dow Inc.'s headquarters.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
Roles that regularly qualify as specialty occupations for E-3 purposes in science and research include research scientists, postdoctoral researchers, biochemists, materials scientists, environmental scientists, biostatisticians, and R&D engineers. The position must require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field as a minimum entry requirement. Roles classified as Job Zone 4 or 5 under O*NET are generally well-positioned to meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find science and research E-3 sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate lists science and research positions in Michigan filtered specifically for employers with E-3 Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can focus on roles where sponsorship is a known practice rather than an open question. Filtering by Michigan and the science and research category on Migrate Mate surfaces positions at universities, pharmaceutical companies, and R&D-focused employers across Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, and the broader state.
Are there state-specific considerations for E-3 sponsorship in Michigan's science and research sector?
Michigan's science and research hiring is closely tied to university research calendars and pharmaceutical project cycles, which means sponsorship activity often clusters around the academic year and product development timelines. Michigan does not impose state-level visa filing requirements beyond federal standards, but employers in regulated industries like pharmaceuticals may have additional compliance steps. Postdoctoral and grant-funded positions sometimes have shorter contract terms, which affects E-3 renewal planning.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 science & research jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
