Which science and research companies sponsor E-3 visas in New York?
New York's largest E-3 visa science and research sponsors include academic medical centers such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, and NYU Langone Health, along with pharmaceutical and biotech firms operating in the New York metro area. Research-intensive universities including Columbia, Rockefeller, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island also have established sponsorship histories for specialty occupation roles.
Which cities in New York have the most science and research E-3 sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan's Upper East Side medical corridor and Midtown, accounts for the majority of science and research E-3 opportunities in the state. Long Island is a secondary hub, home to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and several biotech campuses. Albany and Buffalo also have research activity tied to state university systems, though volume is significantly lower than the New York City metro area.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
Roles that consistently qualify include research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, computational biologists, clinical research associates, biostatisticians, and laboratory scientists in fields like oncology, genomics, and pharmacology. The E-3 requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related scientific discipline must be a genuine requirement for the role, not just a preference.
How do I find science & research E-3 sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by E-3 visa type, the science and research industry, and New York as the target state to see roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job postings. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer sponsorship history, which is particularly useful when targeting New York's competitive research institution market.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for science and research E-3 sponsorship?
New York research institutions frequently hire on academic calendars, so postdoctoral and research scientist openings often cluster around spring and fall recruitment cycles. Many roles at public research institutions like SUNY or CUNY involve additional administrative steps tied to state employment processes. For clinical research roles, New York's Department of Health licensing requirements may apply independently of your E-3 status and should be confirmed with your prospective employer before accepting an offer.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 science & research jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
