Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for finance directors?
Michigan's largest visa sponsors for senior finance roles include Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, Dow Chemical, and Kellogg Company. Healthcare systems such as Henry Ford Health and Beaumont Health also hire internationally for finance leadership. These organizations have established immigration infrastructure and have filed H-1B visa petitions for finance director and senior finance manager roles in recent years.
Which visa types are most common for finance director roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for finance directors in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, or a related field. Candidates with advanced degrees may also pursue EB-2 immigrant visa pathways. Those transferring within a multinational corporation, such as an automotive OEM with global operations, may qualify for the L-1A intracompany transferee visa.
Which cities in Michigan have the most finance director sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, including Dearborn, Troy, and Southfield, account for the largest share of finance director sponsorship activity in Michigan, driven by the automotive and financial services sectors. Grand Rapids is a secondary hub with opportunities across manufacturing, retail, and healthcare. Ann Arbor sees demand from the University of Michigan and its affiliated research and healthcare organizations.
How to find finance director visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters finance director roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. The platform covers positions across Michigan's automotive, healthcare, and financial services sectors. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate surfaces active openings from employers with documented sponsorship histories, which is significantly more targeted than a general job search.
Are there state-specific considerations for finance director visa sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's heavy concentration in automotive and advanced manufacturing means finance director roles often require industry-specific experience in cost accounting, capital allocation, or supply chain finance, which can affect how employers structure job requirements and H-1B specialty occupation arguments. The state's university system, particularly the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, also produces a pipeline of international finance talent that influences local sponsorship norms and employer familiarity with visa processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored finance director jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
