Which automotive companies sponsor Green Card visas in Michigan?
General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Stellantis are the largest Green Card sponsors in Michigan's automotive sector, frequently filing EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for engineers, software developers, and technical specialists. Major suppliers such as Aptiv, BorgWarner, Lear Corporation, and Magna International also have established sponsorship programs, particularly for roles in electrification, autonomous systems, and advanced manufacturing.
Which cities in Michigan have the most automotive Green Card sponsorship jobs?
The Detroit metropolitan area concentrates the vast majority of Michigan's automotive Green Card sponsorship activity. Dearborn hosts Ford's global headquarters, Auburn Hills is Stellantis's U.S. base, and Warren houses General Motors' technical center. Beyond the Detroit region, Ann Arbor has grown as a hub for automotive software and mobility research, attracting engineering talent that employers regularly sponsor for permanent residency.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Michigan?
Roles requiring specialized technical degrees most commonly qualify, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, vehicle dynamics specialists, battery and powertrain engineers, autonomous systems researchers, and manufacturing process engineers. Program managers with advanced degrees in engineering disciplines are also frequently sponsored. Positions tied to Michigan's EV transition, such as battery cell engineers and charging infrastructure developers, have seen increased sponsorship activity in recent years.
How do I find automotive Green Card sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter by visa type, state, and industry simultaneously, so you can browse verified automotive Green Card sponsorship roles in Michigan without sifting through listings that don't apply to your situation. Because Michigan's automotive sector is large, using Migrate Mate's filters for Green Card sponsorship alongside the Automotive industry tag helps surface employers with active, confirmed sponsorship programs rather than companies that sponsor only occasionally.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in the automotive industry?
Michigan's heavy concentration of automotive employers means PERM labor market test requirements can be more competitive in technical specialties where local candidate pools are relatively deep. Many Michigan automotive employers are familiar with the PERM and EB-2/EB-3 process and have in-house immigration counsel, which can streamline sponsorship. However, union-represented roles at assembly plants typically do not lead to Green Card sponsorship, as those positions are governed by collective bargaining agreements.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card automotive jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
