Which construction companies sponsor Green Card visas in Michigan?
Several large general contractors and specialty firms in Michigan have histories of Green Card sponsorship, including Barton Malow Company, Walbridge, and Clark Construction Group. Engineering and design-build firms operating across Detroit and Grand Rapids also sponsor permanent residency, particularly for structural engineers, project managers, and civil engineers. Sponsorship patterns vary by company size, project volume, and role criticality, so researching individual employers is worthwhile.
Which cities in Michigan have the most construction Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Detroit leads Michigan for construction Green Card sponsorship activity, driven by ongoing downtown revitalization, automotive facility expansion, and large commercial developments. Grand Rapids follows closely, with a strong commercial and industrial construction sector. Ann Arbor sees demand from university-adjacent infrastructure projects, while Lansing and Flint attract sponsorship through public works and municipal construction contracts. The Upper Peninsula has limited sponsorship activity compared to these metro areas.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship in construction most commonly applies to roles requiring specialized education or licensure. Civil engineers, structural engineers, project managers, construction managers, and estimators with bachelor's degrees are the most frequently sponsored. BIM coordinators and MEP engineers are increasingly sponsored as firms adopt digital construction methods. Skilled trades roles can qualify under EB-3 for skilled workers, though sponsorship for those positions is less common than for engineering and management roles.
How do I find construction Green Card sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate aggregates construction jobs with confirmed Green Card sponsorship in Michigan, letting you filter specifically by visa type and state rather than sorting through postings that don't address immigration support. Search for civil engineering, project management, and construction management roles in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor. Focusing on employers with prior sponsorship history, which Migrate Mate surfaces, significantly narrows your search to realistic opportunities.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in construction?
Michigan's prevailing wage requirements under state and federal law affect how employers structure Labor Condition Applications and PERM filings for construction roles, since sponsored workers must be paid at or above the prevailing wage for their occupation and location. Michigan's heavy reliance on automotive-adjacent construction and infrastructure spending through federal programs like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has increased employer willingness to sponsor for specialized roles, particularly in industrial and civil construction.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card construction jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
