Which companies sponsor visas for respiratory therapists in Michigan?
Michigan's largest health systems are the most active sponsors. Henry Ford Health, Beaumont Health (now part of Corewell Health), Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan, and Sparrow Health System have all sponsored foreign national respiratory therapists. Corewell Health operates across West Michigan and the Detroit metro area, giving it one of the broader hiring footprints in the state for allied health roles.
Which visa types are most common for respiratory therapist roles in Michigan?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for respiratory therapists in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree. Some employers also use the EB-3 immigrant visa for permanent sponsorship, which is common in healthcare given established PERM labor certification precedents for allied health roles. Canadian and Mexican RTs may also be eligible for the TN visa under the USMCA.
Which cities in Michigan have the most respiratory therapist sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding metro area, including Dearborn, Royal Oak, and Troy, account for the largest share of respiratory therapist positions in Michigan given the concentration of major hospital systems there. Grand Rapids is a growing hub anchored by Corewell Health's Butterworth and Blodgett campuses. Lansing and Ann Arbor also see consistent demand, particularly Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor for specialized and academic medical roles.
How to find respiratory therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters respiratory therapist job listings in Michigan to show only roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, so you're not sifting through listings that won't consider international candidates. You can filter by city, visa type, and employer to focus your applications on Michigan health systems that have actively sponsored RTs before.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for respiratory therapists seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan requires respiratory therapists to hold a valid state license from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), and most employers will require this before or shortly after hire. Candidates trained outside the U.S. typically need to verify their credentials through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) before applying for licensure. Hospital systems affiliated with academic medical centers, like Michigan Medicine, may also require additional credentialing steps for specialized units.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored respiratory therapist jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
