Which companies sponsor visas for software product managers in Michigan?
Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis are among the most active H-1B sponsors for software product manager roles in Michigan, driven by their ongoing software-defined vehicle initiatives. Beyond automotive, companies like Rocket Companies in Detroit and Duo Security (now part of Cisco) in Ann Arbor have also sponsored product management roles. Mid-sized enterprise software firms in the Detroit metro area regularly file LCAs for this occupation as well.
Which visa types are most common for software product manager roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software product managers in Michigan, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. L-1B visas are also used when candidates transfer from an affiliated overseas office, particularly within large automotive multinationals. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA, provided the role aligns with a covered professional category.
Which cities in Michigan have the most software product manager sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, including Dearborn, Auburn Hills, and Southfield, account for the largest share of software product manager sponsorship activity in Michigan due to the concentration of automotive and mobility tech headquarters. Ann Arbor is the second-strongest market, benefiting from University of Michigan alumni networks and a growing cluster of SaaS and health tech companies. Grand Rapids has a smaller but emerging tech scene with occasional sponsorship opportunities in manufacturing software and logistics platforms.
How to find software product manager visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for software product manager roles in Michigan without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. You can narrow results by city, company size, and visa type to focus on automotive tech employers in the Detroit area or SaaS companies in Ann Arbor. Migrate Mate's listings are sourced from employers with documented sponsorship histories, which helps prioritize applications toward companies already familiar with the H-1B process.
Are there any Michigan-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software product managers?
Michigan's automotive industry creates a distinctive hiring pattern: large OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers often have established immigration programs and in-house legal teams experienced with H-1B filings, which can streamline the sponsorship process compared to smaller employers. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University feed a steady pipeline of international graduates into product roles, so employers in Ann Arbor and East Lansing are generally familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions. Prevailing wage requirements apply statewide and are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific metro area and job level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software product manager jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
