The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with gastrointestinal malignancies as part of our GI care teams.
NPs and PAs see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan in close collaboration with medical oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based cancer treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies. Additionally, the NP or PA provides holistic care and support for patients during all aspects of their disease course. This includes ordering of curative intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long-term treatment-related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression/progression/recurrence, clinical trials enrollment and end-of-life care.
Due to the complexity and breadth of the patient population, the ideal NP/PA candidate requires a commitment to challenging and complex patients, excellent communication, teamwork, and assessment skills. The individual NP PA will work within the GI Oncology Tumor Group. The GI group has 6 care teams comprising of Consultants, NP PAs, RNs and other allied health. These teams are subdivided into the following subspecialty focus areas: Colorectal, Gastroesophageal, Pancreatic, Hepatobiliary and Neuroendocrine cancers with the goal of streamlining patient care and clinical trial enrollment. There is cross coverage to provide support to patients with all GI malignancies. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues from Gastroenterology, Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and other multidisciplinary teams. The NP PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing and help with coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams. Our NP PA are true experts in their area of focus.
Once established clinically, the oncology team is very supportive of mentoring NP PAs in other academic and research pursuits. We take pride in working with individuals to identify their professional development interests and foster them. We strive to see our Advanced Practitioners excel in clinical practice, research, and education shields.

Which companies sponsor visas for NPs in Minnesota?
Mayo Clinic, M Health Fairview, Allina Health, HealthPartners, and Essentia Health are among the Minnesota employers with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for nurse practitioners. Large academic medical centers and integrated health systems tend to have established immigration support processes, while smaller independent clinics rarely pursue sponsorship due to cost and administrative complexity.
Which visa types are most common for NP roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for nurse practitioners in Minnesota, as NP positions typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a master's degree. The EB-3 employment-based green card is a frequent immigrant pathway, and some employers also use the TN visa for Canadian NPs under the USMCA agreement, which allows for a streamlined process at the border without a lottery.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most NP sponsorship jobs?
The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area concentrates the largest share of NP sponsorship opportunities, driven by major health systems headquartered there. Rochester is a significant secondary market due to Mayo Clinic's scale and global recruitment reach. Duluth, home to Essentia Health and St. Luke's, also sees consistent hiring. Rural Minnesota health networks sometimes sponsor NPs to fill persistent primary care shortages in underserved communities.
How to find np visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify Minnesota NP roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. Rather than sorting through general job boards and guessing at sponsorship policies, you can search NP openings in Minnesota directly on Migrate Mate and focus your applications on employers already open to international candidates, saving significant time in the process.
Are there state-specific considerations for NPs seeking sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota requires NPs to hold a state-issued Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license, which international candidates must obtain before or alongside their visa process. Minnesota is a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so NPs licensed in other compact states can practice without reapplying. Employers sponsoring NPs must also meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are set at the regional level and vary between the Twin Cities metro and rural areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored np jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
