Which companies sponsor visas for restaurant jobs in Minnesota?
Large hospitality groups and hotel-affiliated restaurants are the most consistent sponsors in Minnesota. Operators connected to major hotel brands in downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, along with multi-location restaurant groups like Crave Restaurant Group and D'Amico and Partners, have histories of filing Labor Condition Applications for restaurant staff. Independent fine dining establishments occasionally sponsor for specialized culinary roles, though larger operators file more consistently.
Which visa types are most common for restaurant roles in Minnesota?
The H-2B visa is the most common pathway for seasonal front-of-house and general restaurant worker roles in Minnesota, covering temporary nonagricultural workers. Chefs and culinary specialists with a relevant degree may qualify for H-1B sponsorship under the specialty occupation standard, though this requires a demonstrable degree requirement tied to the specific role. J-1 exchange visitor visas also appear in hospitality and culinary training contexts through authorized sponsor organizations.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most restaurant visa sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and St. Paul account for the overwhelming majority of restaurant sponsorship activity in Minnesota. Minneapolis in particular has a dense concentration of full-service restaurants, hotel dining operations, and culinary groups that file for foreign workers. Rochester has a secondary market driven by the Mayo Clinic campus and its surrounding hospitality infrastructure. Duluth sees some seasonal activity tied to tourism, but volume is lower than the Twin Cities metro.
How to find restaurant visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse restaurant roles in Minnesota without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by city or metro area within the platform to focus on Minneapolis, St. Paul, or Rochester. Migrate Mate aggregates roles from employers with documented sponsorship histories, which is particularly useful for restaurant candidates targeting H-2B or H-1B positions in the state.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for restaurant visa sponsorship?
Minnesota's prevailing wage requirements under the H-2B and H-1B programs are determined by the Department of Labor using Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area wage data, which tends to set offer wages higher than rural U.S. markets. Minnesota also has a relatively active culinary school pipeline, with institutions like the Le Cordon Bleu legacy programs and current culinary arts programs producing graduates who sometimes have OPT work authorization, which influences how employers think about international hiring for kitchen roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored restaurant jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
