Which media and entertainment companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New Jersey?
NBCUniversal has a notable presence in Englewood Cliffs and has employed OPT workers in production and digital roles. Other employers with New Jersey operations, including regional broadcasting groups, streaming content vendors, and advertising technology firms, have also participated in OPT sponsorship. Sponsorship decisions are employer-specific and vary by role, so researching individual company hiring policies is important before applying.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most media and entertainment F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Englewood Cliffs, Newark, and Hoboken account for a significant share of media and entertainment hiring activity in New Jersey. Englewood Cliffs is home to major broadcast operations, while Newark and Hoboken attract digital media, advertising, and post-production employers partly due to their proximity to New York City. Jersey City also has a growing presence of media-adjacent companies with OPT-eligible positions.
What types of media and entertainment roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align with a student's field of study are eligible for OPT. In media and entertainment, this commonly includes positions in digital content production, broadcast engineering, video editing, media analytics, UX design for streaming platforms, and marketing analytics. STEM OPT extension eligibility depends on whether the role falls under a designated STEM CIP code, which applies to some technical media roles but not all creative ones.
How do I find media and entertainment F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international students and workers seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface media and entertainment F-1 OPT jobs in New Jersey directly. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly by employer, using a platform that filters for sponsoring employers saves time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in New Jersey's media sector?
New Jersey's proximity to New York City means many media employers operate across both states, and some OPT positions may involve work at New York offices. OPT authorization is tied to your degree field, not your location, so working across state lines does not create a separate compliance issue. However, if your role changes substantially or you move to a different employer, you must update your SEVIS record through your Designated School Official promptly.
