Which accounting companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New Jersey?
The Big Four firms, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, have offices in New Jersey and have historically hired international accounting graduates on OPT. Regional firms like WithumSmith+Brown, headquartered in Princeton, and national mid-market firms with New Jersey offices also hire OPT candidates. Corporate accounting departments at pharmaceutical and financial services companies, including Johnson & Johnson and Prudential Financial, represent additional sponsorship sources.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Jersey City and Newark lead due to their proximity to Manhattan's financial district, attracting audit, tax, and advisory roles. Princeton draws accounting professionals serving the pharmaceutical and technology sectors clustered along Route 1. Parsippany and Florham Park host regional offices for several national accounting and professional services firms, making Morris County a secondary concentration point for OPT-eligible accounting positions.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that require a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a directly related field tend to align well with OPT work authorization. Common qualifying positions include staff accountant, audit associate, tax associate, financial analyst, and forensic accounting analyst. Roles in internal audit, financial reporting, and cost accounting at New Jersey's corporate headquarters also regularly attract OPT candidates, particularly those with CPA exam progress.
How do I find accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students seeking OPT-sponsored roles and filters accounting positions in New Jersey by visa type, so you can search without sifting through listings that don't accommodate F-1 OPT. Beyond Migrate Mate, attending recruiting events at Rutgers Business School and Montclair State University's Feliciano School of Business can connect you directly with New Jersey employers experienced in hiring OPT candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for F-1 OPT accounting jobs in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires a separate state CPA licensure process through the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy, which OPT holders can pursue while working. The state's close integration with New York City means some employers operate across both states, and your OPT work authorization is valid regardless of which state the office is in. New Jersey's high concentration of regulated industries, pharma, finance, insurance, means many employers are already familiar with international hiring processes.
