Which accounting companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Hawaii?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, maintain Honolulu offices and have established OPT hiring pipelines. Mid-size regional firms such as Accuity LLP and KMH LLP also hire OPT students for staff accountant and audit associate roles. Hospitality-focused businesses and federal contractors operating in Hawaii round out the employer pool, though sponsorship availability varies by firm and role.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the large majority of accounting OPT sponsorship opportunities in Hawaii. The city hosts the state's main financial district, the largest concentration of CPA firms, and the regional offices of national accounting networks. Smaller pockets of accounting work exist on Maui, particularly in hospitality-sector finance, but candidates targeting OPT sponsorship will find substantially more options by focusing their search on Oahu.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that routinely support OPT authorization in Hawaii include staff accountant, audit associate, tax associate, financial analyst, and accounting analyst positions. These positions typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, making them well-suited for OPT work authorization. STEM OPT extension eligibility can apply when the role falls under a qualifying CIP code, giving candidates up to 36 months of total OPT work authorization.

Applying to firms with a documented sponsorship track record in Hawaii is far more efficient than submitting broadly, especially in a smaller market where the number of active sponsoring employers is limited.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 OPT accounting jobs in Hawaii?
Hawaii's geographic isolation means accounting firms often prefer candidates who can commit to the islands long-term, since relocation costs and turnover are real concerns for employers. Hawaii has its own General Excise Tax system that differs from mainland sales tax structures, so familiarity with Hawaii tax law is a genuine differentiator for tax-track candidates. The CPA licensure pathway in Hawaii follows the Uniform CPA Exam but has its own state-specific experience and education requirements worth reviewing through the Hawaii Board of Public Accountancy.
