Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapy assistants in New Mexico?
Presbyterian Healthcare Services, University of New Mexico Health, Lovelace Health System, and Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe are among the larger health employers in New Mexico with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for allied health roles. Rehabilitation-focused outpatient groups and long-term care facilities also sponsor, though at lower volumes. Checking an employer's H-1B disclosure data through the Department of Labor's OFLC database can confirm past sponsorship activity for PTA roles specifically.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapy assistant roles in New Mexico?
Physical therapy assistants in New Mexico most commonly enter on H-1B visas when employers classify the role as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum an associate degree in physical therapy assisting. Some internationally trained PTAs also enter on TN visas if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, as physical therapists are listed under USMCA, though PTA classification under TN is narrower and depends on the specific job duties. EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship is another pathway for longer-term employment relationships.
Which cities in New Mexico have the most physical therapy assistant sponsorship jobs?
Albuquerque accounts for the largest share of physical therapy assistant job postings in New Mexico, driven by its concentration of hospitals, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation centers. Santa Fe and Las Cruces follow as secondary markets with meaningful healthcare infrastructure. Beyond those urban centers, federally qualified health centers and Indian Health Service facilities in rural areas of the state also hire PTAs and can offer federal employment pathways that come with their own hiring advantages for international candidates.
How to find physical therapy assistant visa sponsorship jobs in New Mexico?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates looking for visa-sponsored roles, including physical therapy assistant positions in New Mexico. You can filter directly by state and role to see employers who are open to sponsorship, without sifting through listings that exclude international applicants. For PTA roles in New Mexico, filtering by Albuquerque and Santa Fe will surface the highest volume of relevant postings, while rural and tribal health facility listings are also present for candidates open to those settings.
Are there state-specific considerations for physical therapy assistants seeking visa sponsorship in New Mexico?
New Mexico requires PTAs to hold a state license issued by the New Mexico Physical Therapy Board before practicing, and foreign-trained applicants may need credential evaluation to confirm their education meets state standards. The state's significant rural and frontier geography means many sponsoring employers are in medically underserved areas, which can also support J-1 waiver Conrad 30 applications for candidates already on J-1 status. New Mexico does not currently have a PTA-specific pipeline agreement with international institutions, so most candidates arrive through employer-initiated sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapy assistant jobs in New Mexico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
