Which companies sponsor visas for licensed practical nurses in New York?
New York's largest health systems are the most consistent sponsors for licensed practical nurses. NYC Health + Hospitals, Northwell Health, Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Health System, and NewYork-Presbyterian have all sponsored LPN roles through H-1B visa or employment-based immigrant visa petitions. Long-term care operators and staffing agencies contracting with New York facilities also file sponsorship petitions regularly, particularly for EB-3 pathways.
Which visa types are most common for licensed practical nurse roles in New York?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for licensed practical nurses in New York because LPN roles are typically classified as skilled worker positions rather than H-1B specialty occupations, which require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some employers pursue H-1B sponsorship when a candidate holds a qualifying degree, but EB-3 PERM sponsorship is the standard route for most internationally hired LPNs in the state.
Which cities in New York have the most licensed practical nurse sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of sponsored LPN positions in the state, with particularly high demand in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens due to the density of hospitals and long-term care facilities there. Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany also show consistent sponsorship activity driven by regional medical centers and nursing home networks. Long Island health systems, including Northwell's network, are another significant source of sponsored LPN openings.
How to find licensed practical nurse visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters licensed practical nurse roles in New York by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not sorting through postings that don't apply to your situation. Because LPN sponsorship in New York is concentrated among established health systems and long-term care operators, focusing your search on those employer types within Migrate Mate gives you the most relevant results. Checking listings regularly matters here since sponsored nursing roles fill quickly.
Are there state-specific requirements licensed practical nurses should know before pursuing New York sponsorship jobs?
New York requires LPNs to hold a license issued by the New York State Education Department, which involves passing the NCLEX-PN examination. International candidates must have their nursing credentials evaluated for equivalency before licensure, a process that can take several months and should be started well before a sponsoring employer files a petition. New York also participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact review discussions, though it is not currently a member state, meaning a New York license is state-specific.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored licensed practical nurse jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
